How soon does one secure lodging for a 3 month stay? Mayo Rochester

Posted by bevprescott @bevprescott, Jan 31, 2024

Tentative date is late March, prefer a home atmosphere, looking at Covered by Faith rentals. I don't want to wait too long or do people secure lodging once have a date? Who can assist you with this process?

Hi Lori
I had my sct on May 7, went well. I'm currently getting platelets, blood, magnesium & potassium. Mouth sores are here, entering my toughest part of journey. I'm staying at Centerstone Plaza extended stay,l going well. Like using the shuttle every day of week.
I'm hanging in there. One day at a time.

Hi @bevprescott. My goodness, I didn’t realize it’s been since May 14th (last year!!) that we last chatted. We need to catch up!!
If you’d like to share your journey with the rest of us in the BMT gang, it would be a great addition to our growing gathering of stories!
Here are a couple of options:
My BMT Transplant story. Will you share yours?

Or this one:
Snapshots of hope; Life on the other side of transplants. https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/snapshots-of-hope-life-on-the-other-side-of-transplant/

How has your recovery been coming along with your BMT?

I’m just going to put this out here. We lived in Rochester for 4 1/2 months during the process of my husband’s allogenic stem cell transplant.
My husband found us a perfect furnished apartment on a month to month lease. It was a nice building, safe, super clean and only nine blocks from Mayo. We had access to indoor heated parking. The manager and the maintenance guy were the kindest people possible.
I’m going to shamelessly plug them because their help made our home away from home a refuge during some extremely difficult times. If you are facing allo transplant in Rochester, check out TheParkRochester.com
The manager is Beau Hebert. We are forever grateful.

Hi @dwolden. Wow, what a glowing testimonial for long term lodging. It’s difficult enough when we’re having to relocate for several months with a bone marrow transplant so finding a place that feels like home, is golden! Thank you for sharing!

Did he stay at the Charter House?

Wow, that’s interesting. I had my kidney transplant at Mayo Jacksonville and the hospital and team was wonderful. If you’ve found the physician you want to do your surgery I’d say schedule as early as you are able so you can ease your mind about accommodations. That way you can focus on your surgery and getting well. Good luck. I’m sure you will be well taken care of.

Hi
Do they accept small dog, 2 beds ? I'm single, so caregivers need own bed.

What if it’s not a transplant? What if it’s back & ankle surgery & rehab visits daily?
I’d need to state there b/c I live in Florida!
PS: Mayo in Rochester is rated .#1 best hospitals but the Jacksonville Mayo rates #50? I called & what Jacksonville would do for a medical problem maybe a lot different from the care at Rochester! FYI

I stayed at the Gift inn of Life house when I had my transplant. It was a great environment to be in post transplant because you were around so many people that were in similar circumstances as you are. When I was there they had a program that if they were full they would help you find a hotel until space open up in one of there houses not sure if they still do that

They still do that. We continue to stay at GOL, gift of life. Where there for 6m post DLT. Having others that have been thru, in, or post transplant is a great support. And the staff is amazing, but yes when full they assist finding other places.
