How many prolia injections are ok?
I’ve had 12 prolia injections and am very worried that it’s 12 too many.
What are the long term effects?
Will this cause cancer?
Can I ever stop?
Am I headed to fractures regardless?

jorjalee 55, hi.
Research indications are that there is NO increased risk of cancer with Prolia.
More vast research indicates that Prolia is SAFE for at least 10 years in the general population.
You can stop.
If you were to stop taking Prolia without taking a relay drug (Reclast appears to be the most effective), you would likely experience multiple fractures.
Problems can arise with the use of Prolia in some people. You haven't experience the initial problems Prolia can cause. Beyond those problems there are basically three that could come your way, but may never.
If you needed invasive dental work, you would be at increased risk of jawbone decay. There is also a risk of atypical femur fracture. With these two problems Reclast isn't a good relay drug, because it incurs the same risk (to a lesser degree). So with osteonecrosis or atypical femur fracture you can end up in the Prolia trap.
with no good way out because of rebound.
I figure you are safe for at least eight more injections. You might talk with your endocrinologist with and eye to quiting Prolia in the next several years.
You may never fracture. May you never fracture!

3 ReactionsI cannot respond to all your questions about Prolia but I receive shots every 6 months and have for the past 8 yrs. My doctor told me to take shots every 6 months. If you make it longer between shots, you risk broken bones
I have used Reclast for 5 years and before that a large pill I could not swallow.
Good luck with your search for additional information! Blessings
