How long to get over sinus enlargement surgery?
It has been one week and 1 day. I am doing the nasal irrigation 3x a day. I am still having bloody drainage in my throat and headache. I am taking a lot of Tylenol and gave up the Percocet so I can drive. I go back to doctor in a week and am wondering when this will subside. I do feel it has opened my breathing ability on one side. How long before I feel ok again?

Agree the sinus irrigation is important when have sinus issues. I live in a high pollen area so helps clean sinuses as well as reducing inflammation. ENT said the inflammation is what causes the polyps to form.

1 ReactionI had sinus surgery 5 weeks ago and now I lost hearing in my ear.
It's been 4, almost 5 weeks now since they did a balloon sinoplasty and opened up my sinuses and clipped the turbines too. I suddenly lost complete hearing in my right ear and it's filled with fluid, as is my whole head. Up until last week I felt fine. Now this. So much congestion. I cannot hear out of that side. Went back at 4 weeks and they debrided. Said no need to come back. Is this normal?
That’s a very reasonable concern — and it’s not normal for hearing loss and head congestion to suddenly appear weeks after a balloon sinuplasty and turbinate reduction. It doesn’t automatically mean something irreversible has happened, but it needs medical reassessment, not just “wait and see.”

1 ReactionI got a full ear after one of my sinus surgeries .. a normal result he said . Antibiotics took it away . Nothing after the next two . I grow polyps like potatoes apparently 🙂
@shandra Did you lose your hearing in that ear too? It came on suddenly and now I am on antibiotic to see if it helps. New scan shows infection in maxillary sinus. Wish I hadn't done this. I was ok before. Not perfect but ok.
@phxbarb yes I did . Sounded like I was underwater for a few days .. even now when I do my sinus rinse my ears can plug up temporary
Hi Everyone,
I had sinus surgery on 9/25/26. Today is day seven. I guess I underestimated the whole thing. I am miserable. The worst part is dry mouth/cotton mouth at night and waking up gasping for air. I cannot breathe right yet and feel completely miserable overall. I am afraid to blow my nose. I started the nasal rinses two days ago and I think one side is blocked. How long is the recovery time? I have a follow up in one week. If anyone has any answers/feedback/stories, please do tell.

I am scheduled for a left maxillary Antrostomy this coming Wednesday . Which means he will open up the sinus for better drainage and remove dried pus and any current infectious tissue and hopefully eradication of the Pseudomonas that is there . I’m on oxygen full time so the Dr needs to prescribe a mask to be attached to my oxygen tank tubing as the cannula cannot be stuck up the nose sending dry air over an open wound .

Were you put under general anesthesia ? I’m 85 years old and my pulmo Dr and Cardio Dr and having to give clearance to my ENT DR I will know tomorrow if it’s a go !
