How does your knee feel once it reaches the year of recovery?

I have heard it takes a full year for recovery of TKR. How 🤔 does your knee feel while approaching that one year mark?

I am at 10 months from TKR. The knee has felt great during the day, but I have not had a total night sleep since due to knee/leg pain. Some nights no sleep. For about a month it seemed to resolve but started again. My GP recently gave me a prescription for Pregabolin for nerve pain. It is not
helping at all. I am exhausted and can barely function. I think I need a new xray.

I am in my 2 years of knee replacement surgery, but still feel heavy and stiffness. Too much standing or walking make it worse. Don't see any improvement?

I do have some improvements, but when I stand too much, like doing housework or cooking dinner, it gets tighter and lower back pain.

11 months post TKR.
Still not as good as before with bone on bone contact.
Tough going down stairs and hurts much more at end of day.
Considering revision - - at least a second opinion from a non-affiliated doctor who does revision.
All the best for those with total replacements.

@grandpun
Do you have any suggestion about the doctor who does revisions?

After a full year, my knee was great. I am 1.5 years out now and am very pleased with my outcome. I still have stiffness on cold mornings, but once I get moving it is fine. Keep doing the exercises and moving even when it all feels too much.

My replacement is a year ago now, still tightness at the inner side of the knee and can’t kneel anymore, the pressure hurts.
At least for the most of the time it’s much better than it was.

@rainerhans During my preop class, we were told very few people are able to kneel after this surgery.

I'm 17-months out. I've been told by my doctor that the odd sensation in my knee is permanent. It isn't bad. It's like a heaviness. Some mornings I awaken with a stiffness that goes away as soon as I start moving. Pretty much everyone I've met here in my 55+ community has had one or both knees done, and they are all glad they did. I wish it felt like my own knee, but I'm just happy I can walk and ride my stationary cycle without pain. The slow deterioration I was experiencing before surgery was depressing. I'm hoping I won't need my other knee done, because it wasn't easy, but I'd do it again if I need it.

I had my right knee done in 2021. The healing process was brutal! My left knee is bad, but I will never go through a surgery like that again. As for the replacement four years later, I have stiffness and pain going up and down the stairs. I am okay with walking on a level surface. When I asked my surgeon how long it would take for my knee to heal, he told me “two years”! After two years had passed, and it still didn’t feel great, I mentioned the stiffness and pain to him again. His answer to me was “It will never be the knee that God gave you”. Needless to say, I no longer go to him for cortisone shots to my left knee (which no longer work anyway!). So now, I have one replaced knee that isn’t all that great, and another knee in rough shape!!! I am truly happy for all of those people who have had the surgery and have done well!
