How do you manage the fibrofog?

Posted by clayshark @clayshark, 1 day ago

I am able to work full time and have so many hobbies and interests I pursue outside of work. My pain and fatigue definitely slow me down, but it’s the brain fog and mental fatigue that really affect me more than anything else. I have trouble engaging in conversations due to word finding and memory recall. I have trouble planning my weeks/ days due to the fog. I feel like I have mental post-exertional malaise and only have a small bandwidth of mental energy available to me each day and I have to spend most of it at work. Breaks can help a little, caffeine a little. I take D-Ribose 5mg twice a day and 20 mg cymbalta daily. I tried ritalin and it worked wonders for my brain fog for 2-3 months then the effect wore off.
I would love to hear if anyone else if dealing with the same, and how you manage it whether lifestyle or medication suggestions.
Thank you!

What I do is everything is on my calendar on my cell phone and tablet. If I were to lose the two of them, I’d be lost.. I have been using the D-Rinose In the morning. For me, I take a little bit more in the morning and it works great. But do not take any late afternoon or at night as it will keep you up all night. And that is the reason why I take it only in the morning.
To figure out what will work for you for me it’s having everything on my calendar. Even it tells me to pay my bills on time, Take out my hearing aids, And so on I’d be lost without my calendar
Good luck, figuring out what will work for you?

Brain fog is a big problem for me so I feel you! For me, it boils down to needing more recovery time. I simply cannot do all the things society expects…and I am a highly motivated, go getter. I had to do a complete 180 on how I approach my life. I give myself more time to wake up, get to appointments, and doing intermittent fmla at work. Pushing through Fridays was keeping me in the fog. Now I take longer lunches and block my calendar on Friday afternoons so I can nap. It’s starting to feel like I will get to a manageable point as long as I’m mindful and disciplined. I hope this helps and you get relief!

I feel I am in the same stage of fibromyalgia as you are, and I’ve gradually worsened the last 5 yrs.
I do not work. I have been retired many years. So, I am older than you.
My first symptoms of fibromyalgia came 20 yrs ago, after having had chemotherapy.
I had a lot of body aching. I also had skin pain, most noticeable when pressure applied…ie hug.
Cymbalta has been helpful but I, still have times of increased symptoms, especially when I overexert.
I have other medical things going on and it is hard to determine whether it’s due to my fibromyalgia or something else going on.
Challenging.
