Horrendous itching
Hi all ~ I have many psoriatic lesions on my arms and legs. For the past few nights, I have had terrible itching that has kept me awake for hours. I’ve tried various creams and lotions without relief. Any suggestions to remedy this problems would be sincerely appreciated.

My husband has positive results with methotrexate. What does your dermatologist say about possible solutions?
You didn’t say if you saw your family doctor or another doctor in dermatology.
If you haven’t seen a doctor, I would get it checked out. It might be something else and you might be using the wrong cream or ointment.
It’s no fun Itching like you described. I’ve been there, but mine was due to a reaction to a form of calcium citrate.
And they tried a number and tissue to make sure it was the right thing they were giving me

Thank you so much for your response. I’ve seen a dermatologist multiple times regarding this problem. Even had a few biopsies to confirm psoriasis. I had a major shoulder injury in March, which triggered a total body inflammatory response. Now, I’m dealing with the psoriasis and eczema. The intense itching started a few days ago, after I swam in a salt water swimming pool. I thought the salt water would help, but it seems to have made things worse. Thanks again!
@gravity3 Thank you for responding. I’m happy to learn that your husband has had success with methotrexate. Right now, my derm is trying various topical medications. She wants to avoid immunosuppressants at this stage, as I’ve had liver issues in the past, but I appreciate your passing along the information. I hope your husband continues to do well.

1 ReactionItch induced by water contact is called Aquagenic Pruritus. It is pretty rare and it is a type of neuropathy…Beta Alanine is an amino acid that occurs naturally in the body…you can supplement with an otc beta alanine…I take 750 mg to kill random itch, and 1500 mg 30 mins before water exposure/showering…for some reason, it works best later in the day…
Beta Alanine is typically used as a preworkout supplement and at higher doses can cause tingling on the skin.
I buy the NOW Brand from Amazon, 750 mg capsules…it kills the itch…
@moylandavis Thanks! That’s great information. I’ll also pass it along to a friend of mine that experiences itching from time to time and nothing seems to help.
By the way, I got desperate last night and tried Vicks Vapor Rub. It actually helped!
