HoLep vs TURP

Posted by vpirrone @vpirrone, Sep 28, 2024

My husband is scheduled for prostate surgery early Nov. The doctor has agreed to do his cystoscopy under full anesthesia right before surgery… this is because the first time my husband had a cystoscopy he was fully awake, and it was very painful for him. However, the doctor stated that he would have to decide at that time whether he would perform the TURP or HoLep. Can someone advise the differences between the two and benefits/cons also between the two? What determines which procedure the doctor will go with?

Tomorrow makes 12 days since my holep. No side effects but haven’t take The bike out for a ride yet my catheter was removed in 12 hours maybe less. I had no pre underlying conditions and my surgery focused on the lobe. Pants n free. I only go a few times a day and once at night.

I also had the Green LIght Laser and then HOLEP.......The laser lasted about 4 weeks, then back to blockage....the HOLEP went smoothly, and would recommend this procedure.......

Could you please post if you experience burning urination sensation after HOLEP? Is there a way you can manage to reduce it? Thank you

As a Moderator could you please explain to me if there´s a strategy to stop or at least diminish burning urination sensation after HOLEP? From what I have read including using ChatGpt there´s no way to do it, cause other options are risky for kidneys and liver (Pyridium for example)

If you are allowed ibuprofen, that helped reduce it for me. It only lasted a few minutes then followed by an awkward uncomfortable feeling just below and borderline to my bladder. I wish I could say more but I was damn lucky as a patient to not suffered real pain post op ,at all. Once I was out of bed the next day, it was a near lightning quick recovery. I’m at day 52-53 and I can say the numb feeling that followed my first week,is still there a lot but I’m used to it so I almost don’t feel it per se. Bedroom has zero complications
Everything from beginning to end is like before if not better. Continued speedy recovery pray your days of discomfort are behind you as expeditiously as possible.
