Hives at night: Alpha-gal syndrome?
For the past five nights, including tonight, I have been experiencing a reaction of some sort. I assume that they are hives. The weird thing is that it only happens, well 95% of the time, the breakout starts in the evening. I know it's not from a bite or something because they are in different spots each night... I have had an allergy test ..that was done a few years back and it came back negative. Not allergic to anything. I know that can change, but I just find it odd that this only happens at night. During the day, I am fine... just anxious know what's to come after sundown. Another thing I noticed is that they are usually in straight lines.. not always, sometimes they are blotchy but a lot of the time they are in lines. I have taken benadryl every night for the past few nights... didn't work. Tonight I got a little bit of relief but I can already feel my body getting itchy. Hydrocortisone creams do nothing. I think I just apply them for piece of mind. I called my primary's after hours answering service and spoke with my doc. I have an appt with her in the morning and she is going to do bloodwork and give me steroid shots, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced anything like this before or know someone who has.
They usually last for the night. When I can finally get myself to sleep at night.. in the morning i am fine. They dont leave any markings or anything. They are just red and raised and extremely itchy.
Any input will help. Thanks in advance.

Experiencing the same thing. Looking into a few things .
Hello All,
I just happened to stumble across this site. I too have had hives for the last 8 months. Every day, and they start in the evening and through the night and not during the day. Some days I don't have a ton of them covering me but other days a bunch. I also get a horrible burning feeling on my skin and sometimes in addition to the hives I get these weird rashy places on my arms that go away after a few hours. I tested positive for Lupus SLE but my Rheumatologist believes I might have something called MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) instead. I also have Hashimotos thyroid. I try not to complain as other people have so much more to deal with than me, but the hives are just miserable. I will also get some swelling sometimes on random body parts. I feel like I have tried every medication to stop the hives and itching with not a whole lot of luck. Cooling pads seem to help, but not like you can go out with people and try to put cooling pads all over yourself! Is there anyone else with either Lupus or MCAS that has the hives in the evening and overnight hours?

1 ReactionHello,
I found this when I googled what is happening to me. I get this rash and itchy skin at night! For the last 2 weeks around nightfall, my arms begin to itch and burn. I use cream on them but it hardly helps anymore. When I wake in the morning, they are gone. It has been a vicious cycle. I have multiple chemical sensitivies and fragrance sensitivities. I operate in a highly regulated environment and regimen because of it. I have dusted and dusted; I have air purifiers in each room. I cannot pin down the trigger or if there is one. It is uncomfortable and nerve wracking. Any recent experiences or solutions from anyone?
Have you looked at chronic urticaria to see if it fits? It's basically hives that last longer than 6 weeks. There are 2 types-autoimmune and idiopathic. Sometimes it's called spontaneous urticaria or hives. The autoimmune type tends to be nocturnal then fade so take pictures of your hives and swelling so your immunologist can see the hives.

1 ReactionI know this is an old thread but My boyfriend randomly started experiencing this same exact thing and I’m trying to look up what the heck it could be. Because like you, nothing has been changed and it started out of nowhere and has persisted for some time now. Did they ever figure it out? Did the blood work come back normal??
I ended up doing the 6 day regimen of steroids and got relief. He did the regimen and not the shot to sustain the steroids. I felt like my body had a restart and I have been clear for about 3 weeks.
@axtc I am reading thru these post and wondered if you every found long term healing/relief? My nightly hives started about 7+ weeks ago. I've seen my internist and an allergist. All bloodwork normal and I don't think it's "alpha girl" syndrome, as I can gone days w/o eating meat and still have the issue. Zyrtec and Pepcid AC help a little at night, but I don't want to take those forever.
To my knowledge i haven't had any viruses recently, unless I was asymptomatic?
I would love to know if anything/anyone was able to help you. I'm considering going to a functional med or naturopath next.
@ryniceal this is the exact thing g I have been experiencing over a year now. Been to several dr and they have no idea what to do for me. They make me feel like I’m crazy. My rash outbreaks look just like this and mainly happens at night.
Maybe its a histamine reaction. They are usually worse at night. I suffer most nights with a medication allergy. Unfortunately there is no allergy testing for medications. You have to do things old school to pinpoint the allergy. Also, I must take this medication or I will end up in a Heart Failure Infusion Clinic, which I don't want. The rashes can be flat and irregular, bumpy like hives or massive like welts. Head to toe. I control it with antihistamines but not the usual dosing. Talk to your doctor. Been suffering with this for 6 years straight.
