High CA125 (128) PET/CT Scan … no cancer detected for the past 6 month

Diagnosed 2 years ago with stage 3C Ovarian cancer. When I was diagnosed my CA125 was 599. Since surgery and chemotherapy it has fluctuated between 31-129. However following several PET/CT scans, cancer is not detected. Are scans as accurate as CA125 tests. I’m concerned.

Here’s what I know as a lay person.
The PET scan will reliably light up when there is evidence of cancer. So, if the radiologist indicates that there is nothing remarkable present, you can relax and enjoy your continued remission.

The CA-125 is a less accurate indicator in that it can rise from above normal (< 35) for reasons other than cancer. Perhaps grounds for having a further discussion about what may be going on with your doc.
As well, there is a certain amount of variation in what may be a ‘normal’ CA-125 for a woman, One’s baseline CA125may be different and it’s the change from your own baseline level that is relevant. It can vary from woman to woman and may also be more or less responsive when it comes to indicating an issue or problem. It is therefore considered only one measure or indicator, not a definitive one. I would ask my doc if I were in your situation. Hope that gives you some comfort.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond in such a thorough way. Yes, you offered comfort.

I wish I would know about the different tests so that I could help you. Your oncologist does not explain? Hugs and warm thoughts
