Hello, I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this and no real answer. I’m an 80 yrs female.
8 yrs ago, I had something very similar. Shortness of breath, for over 6 mos. occasionally sharp chest pain, pulmonologist doctors, no answers! My lungs looked fine ! But my doc had me on 2 inhalers??
At that time
I was on levothyroxcin for Hypothyroidism.. the answer to my breathing difficulties and pain: A not so knowledgeable internal medicine dr. Increased my thyroid meds so much I was over medicated, it affected my heart ( thought I had a heart attack) @ 1am and headed to the ER! the pain and shortness of breath so bad.
My answer is if any meds your currently taking, have been Changed or increased ?
Or have you been screened by an endocrinologist for thyroid issues? I’d chk thyroid with a specialist! ( endocrinologist)
Blessings surround you!
Diane

I seemed to have developed overnight "air hunger". I couldn't get my breath going upstairs to urinate. It was acute and definitely not expected. For 24 months I've had this see a pulmonologist. Inhalers nebulizers have become routine rituals. Just dx'd with a HH. I have days when I am breathing so much air hunger. Idk but this shortness of breath came on our of the blue... Nothing leading up to this air hunger.
I have to mentally control my shortness of breath. It can become and some frequently cause panic attacks. I feel something not yet dx'd is present. CT lun scans were negative. Thank you for reading. And please continue comments.

@4julz me too! I think I had an ulcer, although GI doc didn't see one with EGD. I've been short of breath off and on for a while. I thought it was asthma. Diagnosed with HH. Absolutely no treatment???? No recommendations. Not even diet! Said he was getting a CT scan, but didn't schedule one until I messaged and reminded him. After CT office personnel phoned and said that I have a concerning nodule in my upper right lung. See a pulmonologist. BUT, I am sure the SOB is caused by the HH. Don't doctors listen anymore? So very frustrating!

How about some imaging ? Letting this go could be uncomfortable to say the least. Wishing you good, free breath !

I have had a spangalion hernia that was repaired. I also have hiatial hernia now Never calls me shortness of breath what caused me. Shortness of breath which I just discovered was to give an echo cardiogram done. I just discovered I have left vetrical bundle Branch block. Lvbbb. Which has to do with the electrical system in the heart. I suggest you getting an echocardiogram and see if your breathing issues could relate to something like this

There are so many things that could cause this sob. Hopefully you get lucky enough to get an answer.

Echoing what others have said. You need imaging. Even if an endoscopy shows an HH I would still ask for heart and lung imaging. Also silent reflux can cause SOB if acid/pepsin have damaged your vocal chords and/or lungs. Yes an HH can cause SOB. But you can have an HH and other issues too. Best to check them all out. Good luck navigating the system.
