Hep C Liver?

Has anyone accepted a liver from a donor with hepatitis c? What has your experience been pre and post transplant?

Thanks!

Hi. For what it's worth. I have not (do have a mismatch with CMV virus but that may be totally different). But before my Mayo liver transplant a top surgeon asked me in the interview process if I would be willing to take a liver with hepatitis. He said many folks get them , not enough livers for everyone otherwise and they are very confident they could treat it post transplant. It could shave off a lot of time till they found me a match. I was in a race vs my liver cancer spreading. He was a top guy and seemed very hopeful I would agree. So I did. So without having had it myself they seemed very confident they could treat it. No color on the process or possible side effects.

Thanks! I’m pretty confident with it too, after my evaluation a couple of weeks ago, I trust Mayo and all the doctors implicitly (I, too, met with the head of the transplant department).

I did say yes to the hep c liver and I also got approved to be listed (interesting, I had to get another MELD update, and it fell from 15 to 12 in two weeks, the lowest it’s ever been. Not sure yet if there are ramifications other than lower priority on the list, but I don’t think so.

Thank you! It is rather “surreal”, oddly, almost anticlimactic, after all these months of testing. But, yet, could come very soon now - I and “Team Kelly” (caregivers) are ready! Well, as we can be - still a long journey to come.

Cool, cool. I had a team of caregivers too. Came in handy. Rooting for my fantasy football team and for Team Kelly. Prayers up. (---:
