Hematology Mayo Florida: Looking for First Appointment Information

Posted by yisabess @yisabess, Feb 4 5:09pm

Hello everyone, I am going to the Jacksonville, FL. location in a couple weeks to see the hematologist. I have sideroblastic anemia but don't know how I got it and don't know how to cure it or live with it. I am nervous about going and wondering if anyone could give me any insight about how long I am usually there for the first appointment, if they will run tests, should I plan on staying overnight, etc..... Any help is much appreciated. I live about 4 hours away from Jacksonville FL.

So I called and asked about my appointment. They said I only have an hour consult scheduled then the doctor will decide what to do next. Is it typical for the doctor to want to do tests that day? Or is it typical for them to ask me to come back the next day/another day?

I have sideroblastic anemia. Does anyone know of anyone who went to Mayo that was treated for sideroblastic anemia or does someone have experience with that? I have so many random symptoms and I don't know if its sideroblastic anemia or something else going on.

Thank you
