Help with eye strain and headache looking at screens
I am looking to see if anyone has any experience or insights into this unique issue i seem to have which is affecting my life and work.
Symptoms:
Every time i look at a screen my eyes hurt (strain and physical pain in front of eyes towards the middle) and my head hurts (temple area right above the eye corner). Unable to look at phones, TV, monitors, most digital screens in malls/airports etc. I have no vision problems at all (my eye pressure and vision seems to be in control) - no issue driving or going outside or reading books during day.
Workarounds for last 6 months - Using watch for phone functions (calls, messages etc.) and using projector to work on laptop or watch TV (putting laptop in dark mode - white screen still bothers eyes). Have tried FL-41 clip-ons as well - didn't help. i cannot even look at the projector or read a book in white light (i end up using projector in dark).
Starting April 1 2026, i have started getting more eye strain in spite of not looking at any screen and it's getting quite frustrating.
Rough Timeline:
2022/2023 - pigmentary Glaucoma detected and SLT procedure done on both eyes
Oct-Dec 2024 - Started noticing the above symptoms (more headache than eye pain). Consulted Neurologist. Got put on medrol pack (steroids) in Jan. No headache/eye issues until May 2025.
May 2025 - Diagnosed with pituitary tumor, the headache and eye problem started mid-May. MRI showed the tumor touching optical chaism.
July 2025 - Tumor removed after surgery - eye problem still unresolved. Consulted multiple doctors (Optometrist, Glaucoma specialists, 2 Cornea specialists, Neuro Ophthalmologist) - No diagnosis besides "dry eyes" - been on various drops since then
October 2025 - Started visiting Mayo Clinic Neurology department
December 2025 - Had MRI for Brain and Spine - nothing substantial uncovered. Was put on Magnesium Glycinate, did not help
January 2026 - Mayo gave nerve blocker injections in back of neck. did not help.
March 2026 - Discontinued Magnesium, started on memantine as prescribed by Mayo. No diagnosis yet.
Hoping to see if anyone has either experienced or has any insights into this problem.
