Help! I’m post surgical menopause with chronic yeast!

Help!

I’m 51 (52 in a few months) and I had a complete hysterectomy in 2023 (including both ovaries) because I carry the gene for ovarian cancer.

I had my thyroid removed in 2025 due to thyroid cancer. I am still struggling to get on the right dose of Levothyroxine.

I’m also still struggling with HRT (I wear an .0375 estradiol patch and use testosterone cream - 2 mg) and now suffer from chronic yeast (since July/August 2025).

I’ve been working with a nutritionist since February and I’m a very picky eater so it’s been challenging to say the least. I’ve lowered my overall A1C to 5.4 (from 5.8).

Diflucan isn’t helping! I tried one dose of Monistat 3 and the burning was awful for two days.

I was doing vaginal estrogen but stopped after the yeast wouldn’t go away. I’ve read online that vaginal estrogen can actually cause yeast so can I even use it?

@gravity3 Yes, she just keeps giving more Diflucan. I’m on a weekly dose for six months. I’m also taking oral probiotics specifically for women’s health under the guidance of my nutritionist.

Levothyroxine. I do even days 2 pills odd day I do 3. Been doing this for a number of years and it works to keep my levels where they want for the thyroid medication. I do have had some issues with yeast infections and it’s not easy to get it to go away and to stay away.
I wish you the very best on your road to figuring this all out. One thing I have found that works well for more technical information is Google scholar Just type in Google\scholar
Good luck

Are you certain it’s yeast? I ask because sometimes the symptoms seem like yeast, but it’s something else. I had an itch that seemed like yeast, but turned out to be an allergy to my toilet tissue.

When I used to struggle with yeast, Terazol was the only cream that worked for me. It’s still prescription I think.
I would explore why the oral med hasn’t helped. That’s a strong med, so that’s why I question if it’s actually yeast.

Medication will treat a yeast infection but not stop what's causing it so your infection will return.
I have stopped what was causing mine and without medication.
A life changer for me was reading this small book- The Yeast Connection Handbookook by William Crook MD. It's written in simple layman's terms, including hand drawnings of what is happening in your body and you will be motived to follow the diet including the miserable detox. If you suffered on and off for decades like I did you will be motived. Pain for me is a serious motivator. I have a similiar history to you so was motived to do this 6 years ago and it changed my life. Without will power don't even attempt this. During the detox and afterwards on the maintenance plan I made up a jingle- which I would repeat to myself when my mouth was watering just thinking of a processed sugar food, " When will you learn it's going to make you burn". I have never been overweight or never consumed large amouts of processed sugars, but it doesn't take much sugar to keep the yeast colonies which live in your colon alive. After detox you can introduce foods back, like fruit or gluten carbs like I did, but to this day I do not eat processed sugar except at Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. It takes about 3 years to get over the processed sugar craving because the yeast colonies living in your colon must starve out to stop sending messages to your brain to feed their lust for sugar which causes the cravings.
I have had zero yeast issues since I following this plan. Buy a used book on line; very inexpensive.

@celia16 Besides chronic yeast issues I also developed Allergic Contact Dermatitis, ACD. Like you toilet paper and also personal body wipes caused inflamation on my private parts. It was the agents in toilet paper or kleenex with softening agents and the personal body wipes with preservatives. Have you had the 5 Day Extended Patch test to identify the contact allergens you have? Since then I've been able to identify and avoid all my allergic contacts that caused my form of eczema, ACD. Turns out over 20 allergens were identified.

@celia16

Definitely yeast. I’ve had multiple swabs since last summer.
