Hello, I was treated for h pylori by the Mayo Clinic in October 2015. I recently had a stool test that said it is now negative. I was just wondering about the accuracy of the stool test because I am still experiencing daily nausea. I am hoping someone may have some knowledge on this. Thank you.
Yes, I wasn’t confident that the antibiotics worked but the breath test I took a few months later was negative. The doctor had told me it was more accurate than other tests but maybe that was because of higher likelihood of false positives after treatment. I don’t actually recall why the breath test was considered the best way to follow up but it seemed convincing.

With the kinds of antibiotics you were on, be careful of *Clostridium
Difficile *infections of the gut, which can cause nausea but also and more
typically diarrhea. Mayo has great info on this on their site. Any
microbial imbalance can persist until you get high-quality probiotic
treatment. You need billions a day in a dose that keeps them alive (such as
probiotic yoghurt or refrigerated caps like VSL #3, which is pricy but
good). Which probiotics you need and how much can be answered by a
nutrition counselor. I know one in Colorado who does phone consults and is
very very knowledgeable. Erin Livers at Food As Medicine Counseling (

Good luck!
