Heat affects stamina?
I have been diagnosed with PMR. Heat and humidity really affects my stamina. On a cool day I can walk slowly for 40 minutes or so. On a hot/humid day about 3 minutes. When I see footage of marathon runners almost collapsing and their legs go all rubbery that's exactly how I feel. Anyone else experiencing this? At the moment I'm on 11 mg Prednisone and trying to taper off 1/2 mg every two weeks.

Old post…..heat humidity…..off set with Tylenol for Arthritis…..ok’d by my Rheumatologist with prednisone. 2 with bfast works for me
Oddly enough pain is not increased with the heat/humidity, just stamina.
Your heart has to work harder when it's hot and humid, to try and keep your body cool. Do you have access to a fitness center? It might be easier to do something indoors where it's air conditioned.

2 ReactionsI practice Tai Chi so that takes care of the air conditioned exercise but.. I have two hairy 'poopies' and getting their walks in have been a challenge. I really have to gage how far I go and keep my eyes open for benches and/or stairs to sit on. Has let to some interesting chats....

1 ReactionHeat and humidity have always affected me, but more so since being diagnosed with PMR. I am newly diagnosed, and just started Kevzara since I cannot take Prednisone. It's early days for me, it will take awhile for the Kevzara to kick in.

1 ReactionI never had trouble with heat until the hot days this summer (first summer with prednisone). I normally walk a few miles for exercise but have had several days when I would get totally wiped when I walked in the heat. The worst, first, time I literally felt ill, weak as water, light-headed, and it took a couple of days to recover. I've been more careful since.
