Hello @jerry91, Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.

Have you spoke with your Doctor about this? Sudden hearing loss of any kind is not normal and should be addressed sooner than later. Usually a hearing test will be done at the time of hearing loss and then repeated at intervals of time to track loss or gain of hearing.

When did your knee surgery take place?

I have been going to ent since I was 17 years old with several surgeries. I have otosclerosis both ears. Left is deaf now because surgery probably destroyed nerve and hearing aids won't work. The right is getting worse and worse and aid is not helping much . Told I need a cochlear because another aid won't help either. I didn't quite understand why you needed a hearing test after knee surgery and they told you your hearing is fine? First surgery I was 17 years old and have had tinnitus most of my life but I am used to it I guess. But I noticed i sing songs in my mind only and maybe why it doesn't bother me so much.

Have you put much thought into a cochlear implant? You may be interested in this story about a patient at Mayo that also suffered from tinnitus and ended up getting a cochlear implant- https://sharing.mayoclinic.org/2018/06/20/a-noise-filled-hearing-loss-journey/

I had the exact same experience. I had knee replacement surgery recently, 24 hours later I had complete hearing loss in my left ear. Fortunately, my hearing came back but not fully. I would say that I was left partially deaf in my left ear. Sadly, the same thing happened to my mother after right knee surgery and she experienced permanent hearing loss in left ear. The doctors could not explain either post surgery hearing loss.
I do wish you well and hope your hearing is fully restored.

I had sudden hearing loss in my left ear 24 hours after right knee joint replacement. 24 hours post surgery I experienced sudden total hearing loss in my left ear that partially came back within a few days. Unfortunately, I was left partially deaf in my left ear. Doctors have no explanation. My mother had her right knee operated on in the 1980s and experienced full hearing loss in her left ear as well . Doctors were also left with no explanation. I also have extreme tinnitus in both ears after knee replacement.
Strange for sure.
