Healthy safe alternatives to tums / rolaids for indigestion?

Posted by noti @noti, Aug 20 3:11pm

I've been taking Tums for frequent but fairly mild indigestion. Mostly burning and a feeling of almost gerd starting to bubble up, with occasional painful heartburn in the middle of the night. I'd like to find something healthy that can be used as needed with as few repercussions as possible. Alginates came up on Dr. Google. I'm also thinking about, ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon. But I'd rather not experiment too much on myself if I can tap the wisdom of this group...
So I'm wondering how other people deal with this issue. I've been tapering down from 15 mg since April and expect to start my 7mg taper in a few days. Thanks in advance

When I had bad reflux, I made homemade alkaline water. A small pinch (1/4 tsp) of baking soda dissolved in plain water. Directions on side of box. It worked ok, in conjunction with everything else I was doing. Reflux can really play havoc with your well-being. You have my sympathy.

Thank you for acknowledging homemade alkaline water—it proves that it is a classic remedy for acid reflux!
I just prefer the bottled kind because the water is purified and it usually has added electrolytes also that makes it taste good! Smart water makes a alkaline water and also Target has one that tastes real good. I think it’s a better alternative to a lot of herbs and spices. I only take a Pepcid at bedtime as a preventative cause I have a hiatal hernia.

Thank you so much for posting this! I've been doing this the last few nights and it has made a world of difference - no more acid reflux. What a game changer. I can even have (some) wine with dinner. I've been missing that, a LOT

I have both as well. I will try the soda water.
