I had a l4 s1 fusion done in 2020 at My.Sinai in NY.I could barely walk at the time of surgery.I have barely any recall of the first two weeks from taking painkillers and a great deal of the post-op pain had passed by that point. There was a great deal of discomfort for a couple of months after that any every day was a challenge in differing ways. For me the key to recovery was walking, often in excess of seven or eight miles a day the further away from operation I got.Don’t skip PT and make sure the physio knows what they’re doing. At the end of five months I was cleared to ride my bike without restrictions and built up to the 25 hours a week I was riding before the fusion.
There will be be days when you wonder if the operation was a total mistake but in the end you will find it was an operation that gave you back your life.Good luck and stay positive.

I am really scared because I do not what my life will look like after. What are going to be my limitations? It is hard because I am also a CrossFit coach and love not only the workouts, and coaching. If anyone can provide guidance that would be great. Also, I am seeking a second opinion. Would it be good to start with an epidural?
