Having a bad day

Hey Ya’ll, I’m starting out with a rough day. I’m not feeling mentally the way I should to be able to fight this. I’m on a new pain medicine and things haven’t been going too well these past few days. I believe it’s because I have fibro as well as rheumatoid and osteoarthritis and the weather has been cold and rainy – a double whammy. I wanted to communicate with fellow pain sufferers who would understand……..Karen

Cold and gray weather hit me every time. Not good for people who have fibromyalgia. The cold makes you contract your muscles which is just what you do not want to do.

Try making yourself a warm bubble bath and soak for a while. Or take an extended warm shower. That usually helps me a little. Think as positively as you can. Meditate. Think about all the blessings in your life. There is no magic bullet, but sometimes little things can move your perception of the day to the positive side of the scale.

I will be thinking of you and all the others who share our diagnosis. We can handle this if we stay positive. It’s hard. I know. El

@karen00 As you read the reply from @elmay you may find some tips to help you. Each person has their own best way to deal with a sudden change in meds or our environment. This is my first winter in a new state, where there is a definite seasonal change. I find myself in sweats a lot of the time, and moving slowly, but forcing myself to move. I know it will make me feel better even if my body and mind complain at the time ;)) I have set small goals to accomplish, nothing major, so that getting those done make me feel like something was accomplished. It can be a struggle to get through each day. So try for getting through the next few hours, then repeat. I treat myself to a nice cup of tea each night, as a ritual that then I can rest. Is your new pain medication in response to a new issue, or a change? What will you do for yourself today?

@karrenOO It is tough this pain we go through believe me I just had a fibro flare recently the only I do for any pain is use Ice or heat those are my two best friends. When its gloomy I put on a meditation tape or just listen to music. Everyone has there own way of helping so its just trial and error a lot of times. I'm sorry your hurting today ,hope tomorrow will be better for you Take care

@lioness Hey Ms Lioness, thanks for the reply! We have the same “holy grails”. Mine are heat and music. I never could use ice – it always ended up hurting. My gratitude today is for my “Alexa Echo”. I can tell it to play virtually anything and it does. I can close my eyes and be somewhere else – away from the hurt and the claustrophobia of the house. I hope you’ve had a good day and your tomorrow will be even better! I know mine must be – because football is on!!!………..Karen

@karen00 I know how you feel.. it’s a cold chilly day in london and my fibromyalgia is flaring plus I have osteoporosis.. bad days tend to be more these days and I find myself spending most of the time in bed unable to move! It’s so easy to give up it’s so easy to give in to the pain..but then I remember how good it feels when the pain fades and how I’ve learned to appreciate the simple things in life and the beauty around me..yesterday as I was watching the fund raiser for Children In Need and I saw the courageous children overcoming their challenges I couldn’t but feel thankful and grateful for all the amazing years that I enjoyed before illness entered my life..and I felt the empowerment to overcome the pain for I know the pleasure I’ll have from those painless days hours or minutes… the power of the mind is in us finding the light, that moment of peace and happiness that empowers us and filled us with joy.. and today is my the first time I can share this with someone that understands where I’m coming from and that puts a smile on my face 😊 I hope you feel better and please know I’ll always be here to listen and support you

I actually DID little things around the bedroom. That is where I live. I live With my brother and he has the living room so all my stuff is in my bedroom. Today I search for a reason for my malaise. Can’t find one. I am also bedridden because I don’t have a recliner. Where is your arthritis? Mine hurts most in my knees, shoulders, elbows, hips, back. @karen00 Karen sweetie pain is overpowering as even when it’s not there the memory of it can haunt us! Therefore it’s very important to try to overcome that and find positive ideas or thoughts that when you’re feeling it crawling in, you’ll be able to deny it it’s power.. I’ll try to explain when I have mild pain I’m so happy but at the same time in the back of my mind there is this fear of its going to get worse eventually and if I surrender to this idea without realizing it the fear takes over and now I’m worried of what’s going to come cause I have the memory of it and I know it will happen unfortunately sooner or later.. this stops me from enjoying the stages of lesser pain and sometimes it increase my pain. I started a new strategy DENIAL! Meaning when I have days like today where I woke up and in comparison I feel wonderful for I’m able to check my computer (which in bad days I wouldn’t be able to even do that.) when the thought of the previous pain starts crawling in I stop it! I deny it can even happen! I’m a 100% sure today is the day we’re a miracle will happen and all this pain will disappear 😊 so now I’m going to have breakfast plan loads of activities talk to my friends sort out my room and maybe go for a walk! In reality I know I don’t know what I’ll be able to do it all, nor how long this will last but it overcomes the fear and the thought of the pain taking over! I don’t know if this makes much sense to you!
What I’m trying to say sweetie sometimes it’s difficult to find the reason why we’re not feeling well. As our memory is filled with pain that it overtakes us with fear… my arthritis is all over the worst pain is my back shoulders hips and legs… I have several fractures that come and go..few months ago I had fractured ribs and I had no idea what that severe pain was from till my doctor did an MRI and discovered it ! Despite everything I’m determined that today will be a wonderful day and I hope you’ll have the same xxx

Plus it’s been rainy which makes it a double whammy. Yesterday I journaled to help my mood. I also got lost in my reading, which is a good thing! When I’m really depressed, I’m unable to concentrate enough to stick with it.
I’ve decided to try being more cognizant of what I’m eating. I’ve read much about anti inflammatory foods, but I haven’t really believed it. So, I’m going to investigate. Anyone out there who has experienced success with the elimination of foods and lessening of pain – let me know! ………..Karen

@karen00 Good for you for starting an investigation on how food affects us. I for one will be interested in what you find out. @lioness has used tumeric tea, or supplements, with some good results. Keep journaling, paying little mind to grammar/spelling/train of thought. Get things out of your mind and it will help, I can attest to that! Take each day as it comes, or each hour if that is what works for you.

On days when I don't wake up in pain, I review the day before looking for anything I might have done, or eaten, that made me feel better. I haven't found anything yet that correlates. Peggy

@pfbacon Hey Peggy, I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one who can’t find any correlation. I thought that I would study anti-inflammatory foods and see if anything adds up. It’s all I know to do – keep looking and never stop!……….Karen

@lioness Hi Ms. Lioness! Well, we’re nearing the end! A couple of weeks of Saturday games, which make for a good weekend. But then——oh no! It seems that every year I end up feeling not so great in February and March. Then the flowers arise and the birds sing and spring is in the air! So I’m going to be on a roller coaster for a little while – but oh how much fun it’s going to be when I’m at the top! ……Karen

@karen00 Yes its almost over this weekend will be good starting tomorrow but then what ? it is a long winter then without any football to watch. Lets get through it the best we can . Our games did take our problems off our pain but at last what now , do the best you can I'm going to emerse myself in painting I guess . Right now I'm painting a little piggy bank for a friend . How are you doing and did you and your brother find a good place to stay ? Hope you did Happy New Year lets hope for a better year
