Comparison of Spinal Cord Stimulators from Boston Sci., Nevro
I've lived with severe chronic pain in my legs and lumbar spine for the past ten years. Was on opiates for 8 years until I attended & graduated from Mayo's 3-week Pain Rehab Program in 2018. That program helped immensely and I got off 5 meds I used to take, including morphine and hydrocodone. Unfortunately, in the last year my spine health has worsened. I now have a toxic mix of scar tissue (from a dural tear during a microdiscectomy), stenosis at multiple levels, bulging discs and scoliosis. I am now scheduled to do a trial of Boston Scientific's "Wave Writer" SCS on August 10, 2020. Unfortunately my doctor did not guide me in the selection of this manufacturer/model. I did my own research. I considered doing trials of Nevro's HF-10 and Boston Scientific's Wave Writer. Finally decided on the Wave Writer.
I'm posting here to ask for people's knowledge of and/or experience with these two SCS's. Please reply if you can share any information. Thanks!

Does your husband use the spinal stimulator all day long, or times of moderate to high activity?
My Pain Management Physician gave me a brochure on the NEVRO HFX SCS and I wanted to know if anyone has used this model and whether or not you have had success with it. Thanks

4 ReactionsThere are likely many people who have had success with this SCS. The important thing is to have the trial, in which you have temporary leads impanted in your intrathecal space and an external battery pack that you wear. Then you give it a try for 5-7 days. Then, if you had decent pain relief(at least 50%), you can go ahead with the permanent implant. Sometimes, the permantent implant doesn't always give you the same relief as the trial. I had the Medtronic SCS trial and implant back in 2018. The trial gave me about 80% pain relief. The permanent implant gave just 50%. But, along with some meds, I was able to get back to cycling, hiking, and working around the house. Not quite 100% normal, but pretty good. Wish you well on your journey.

6 ReactionsJust read of big law Suite with the spinal cord stimulators. I had one that almost shocked me to death. Wanted to join the suit but can't find my documentation.

1 ReactionLike everything, there are always risks. I think that I speak for everyone when I say so glad you are okay.
Hello My husband had a laminectomy in his thoracic in 2021 then a laminectomy in 2023 he is still in so much pain his pain is in his legs and feet he just got off of oxycodone because it was destroying him and it did not take the pain away. he is thinking of doing the SCS but we have no idea how to chose one or which is the best he is also very sceptic because we have heard a lot of horror stories. Can you tell me which is the best or which has had the best results and how to chose one. Thank you
You need to do your own research online & see what his dr recommends, too. I had the Boston Scientific SCS in 2022. It did nothing to alleviate my back pain in L4 & L5, even after several adjustments. It also needed to be charged quite often. I ended up having it removed February 2024. I pray you find the right answer & treatment.
As I've seen others say, it's important to start with the trial. My trial was successful so I had the nervous implanted in April 2024 and can honestly say it has given me my quality of life back! This past summer I was able to dust off my kayak, as well as keep up with my 7 year old granddaughter! There is a learning curve so don't give up if your success isn't the best right away. I only regret that it wasn't available 10 years ago!

6 ReactionsI just went through a 5 day trial of the HFX Nervo spinal cord stimulator. I have been in pain after 2 years and, a Laminectomy surgery on July 2024 and that didn't help much as their primary focus was to remove 2 synovial cysts that was the origin causing my severe pain.
After my recent trial that ended on 1/27/25, I am a candidate for the HFX Nervo implant. I have gotten 70% improvement pain free and there are many programs to modify to your pain levels. I am ecstatic and optimistic in how this has worked!

"Has anyone used the Spinal Cord Stimulator NEVRO HFX?"

Here you can meet @denman55 and @stellaluna35 who briefly shared their experiences with a spinal cord stimulator.
