Has anyone tried Ketamine for depression?

Posted by kelster69 @kelster69, Aug 8, 2020

Hi. My depression is intolerable right now. I started ketamine infusion therapy last August. It helped initially, but it has not really worked for me in about 7 months. I still went to the same clinic for 11 months, which I'm learning is a ketamine mill. I spoke with another doctor/clinic who does intramuscular ketamine treatments and who monitors dosing and patients' reactions very carefully during the treatment (my former clinic did not at all). I swore I wouldn't try ketamine again, after this last run failed and seemed to make me even more depressed. But I have some hope with this new clinic who seems to know what they're doing. I am at the end of my rope here; very depressed. I'm wondering if anyone else on here has experience with this treatment?

I really would like to take the treatment but so very expensive here. Any ways to reduce the expense?

I’m so glad to find this group where others are discussing Ketamine. I’m in Laurel, MS which is a small town and so no doctors here are using it yet. I’m 53 and struggled with depression my whole life with it just getting worse and more resistant over last 6 years (AA series of traumatic events has complicated and intensified the depression)
I’ve been searching to find a dr not so far away that I can see to be treated and try ketamine. If anyone has leads in Hattiesburg, Ms or Jackson , MS or Birmingham, Al . I have Humana Ppo insurance

Dr Ashraf Hanna is director of The Ketamine Clinic at the Fl Spine Institute in Clearwater, Fl. I had to get clearance letters from my other drs who’ve been treating me over the last 18 mos - my primary care dr had to do an EKG and liver study, and a psychiatrist had to state I did not have Schizophrenia. Seems like there was one other clearance letter but I can’t remember it Rt now. Lots of depressed ppl and ppl with PTSD and chronic pain have a lot of success with Ketamine iv’s. But I want to report that I did not bc I had a systemic allergic reaction to it. Horrible itching and headaches. I am having to stay on an antihistamine the rest of my life.

Who do you go to for the ketamine? Psychiatrist? I’d love to try it as antidepressants are of not use

Psychiatrists, or some internal medicine doctors!

A family member did psilocybin treatments and it worked while several others I know do TMS therapy and it's working to treat depression and anxiety

Remember:
Ketamine infusions and Spravato Nasal Spray are 2 different medications
Google Spravato manufactured by Janssen. You can call them and ask to speak to a patient relations representative.
Spravato is monitored through strict protocals: REM...That's one question to ask. What is REM?

In other words, you can't get a prescription of Spravato and give it to yourself at home.
You have to be at a clinic with
Strict protocols & supervision by a Psychiatrist or pharmacist.
Low light.
No white light.
No TV.
It's not scarey...I'm very relaxed. I don't fall asleep. I'm aware. But during the first 40 minutes, I'm wrapped in my own comforter, with my own pillow, lying on a recliner.
Have you ever had dental or a medical treatment that prohibits you to drive yourself home? Don't make major decisions?
Precautions are important.
Hope I helped @lindasmith1222

My son is 52 and has been on Ketamine for over a year and really likes it. I think
