Has anyone transitioned from Tacrolimus to Everolimus?

Posted by 8899 @8899, Aug 27 11:18pm

I am 2 yrs post liver transplant and we are about to change from Tacrolimus to Everolimus due to deteriorating Kidney function.
I have constant bruising everywhere, nose bleeds all the time,
(eGFR by Cystatin C - level 47)
* Basically, I'm now in stage 3a kidney disease, more than likely due to the; 19-hour CIT (4 hours off pump) - DCD Liver they put in me.
Question to all, does anyone have any experience along these lines?

@8899, I am not familiar with your health situation, although I do take tacrolimus for my liver ans kidney transplant. As a transplant recipient, I am very concerned about your deteriorating kidney function along with the health of your liver.
What are your doctors saying about the positive effects that they hope to achieve by changing your medication? Have they hinted at how long until you realize good results? How are you being monitored?

Please accept my virtual hug as I send my thoughts and hopes to you.

I stsrted tsking biotin
But 5000 mg. This time.my dr. Offiice will not change the amy. Of tacrolimus...take 4 mg a day...i understand how important the relationship is between that n kidneys. My kidney numbers r usually 48...numbers change due to age, i get

Hi @8889 and All,
I was informed by the care team that tacrulimus med can cause toxicity to some patients depending on many factors. So the challenge is how much tacrulimus to take that is high enough to avoid rejection and low enough to avoid toxicity. I don’t know what would be the symptoms of toxicity but the symptoms you mentioned are concerning. Talk to your team or doctor. All the best.

Hi, Jackie @jackie421blfdgurl - It' great to hear from you! So sorry that the medication switch to Sirolimus didn't work for you. So now you are back on Tacrolimus, that's what I've been taking since my transplant, and I also experienced hair loss which had corrected itself after 9 - 12 months. The dermatologist in the transplant dept said I could try Biotin (I forget the amount) and that along with gentle shampoo helped my and my fingernails to return to normal.

Others have also struggled with hair loss. You might want to check out these discussions:
