Has anyone taken Biologics?
I'm somewhat new to asthma and lung problems. In December, I had my first visit with a pulmonologist who prescribed a steroid inhaler and an Aerobika. They were helpful; however, there were still times when these did not work as well as I expected. Six months later, during my follow-up appointment, the pulmonologist added Singulair, which has also been helpful. He did mention he was considering prescribing a biologic.
I'm still having times when all of the previous treatments are not effective, and I'm going to the ER or urgent care for a breathing treatment and Prednisone; I'm probably going to be discussing biologics at my next appointment. If you have been prescribed biologics, please share your experiences.

5 ReactionsThat is an interesting result, @ricktweld. What type of symptoms were you having? Is there a treatment for hypoxemia?

2 ReactionsI have been taking 300mgs of Nucala since February 2025. It's doesn't seem to be working as well. I been coughing, wheezing for 3 months, back to using rescue inhaler, nebulizer and prednisone!! Yuk...
Prednisone makes my heart rate and blood sugar, ect... My energy level is good considering I'm supposed to have pneumonia!!!!
So I've had xrays, CT scan with a diagnosis of new nodules in my right lung...Dr said that I have pneumonia as well, He wanted me to go to ER and get admitted for the so called Pneumonia, but I have NO infection or fever, just loose congestion that won't completely go away... I know my body better than the Dr so decided to wait and take the prednisone for a week, so far it seems much better...Somedays are better than others. So my pulmonary Dr wants me to switch me to Dupixent..I've read it has more side effects than Nucala...My question is, if your taking Dupixent, how are you doing and what side effects have you had? Thanks

4 Reactions@hopeful33250 I retired 10 years ago, and my wife made me do a sleep apnea test. Came back as a hypoxemia rather than apnea.

2 ReactionsThanks for this good report, @ricktweld. How many years have you had breathing problems?
Took my 23rd dose of Dupixent last week. No exasperations since starting biologics and my spo2 readings have gone from 92-93 prior to bios to 96-97 after starting bios. I can swallow better too. Weird huh? Rarely have i used my albuterol, haven’t really needed it since starting Dupixent. A year ago I could hardly walk to my favorite fishing hole. Last week did it just fine. Caught a couple of fish too! Hope this helps anyone who reads this, good luck!

3 Reactions@sandralowery I appreciate you sharing about your experience with biologics. How often do you take the Tezspire? Do you still need inhalers or other treatments?
Have had 2 doses of tesspire at this time. Nothing else seems to keep me out of hospital. I fo breathing treatments and steroids at home. Am hopeful this works.

2 ReactionsI have Eosinophilic Asthma and currently on Fasenra and also take a puffer called Breezhaler..
My peak flow unfortunately is still at 150/160 which is still lower than I would like but before Fasenra is was only around 130 for awhile and of course than would go on Predisone which I have not used since Fasenra.
I have permanent air way damage so I believe that is why my peak flow is not greater.
My question is what puffers or perhaps none are people taking while on Fasenra to improve Lung Function

1 ReactionI have had asthma my entire life and am 71 now. three years ago it became eosinophilic asthma. I have been using the biologic Fasenra for two years now. it is a life changer. while I continue to have flare-ups, I now live a fairly normal life. prior to starting the biologic I was unable to live my daily life. I have had no negative effects from the biologic. It is important to learn your triggers. While my asthma trigger was environmental allergies, my eosinophilic asthma trigger is viral and bacterial infection. That is a little more difficult to anticipate and avoid, but I am learning to recognize the signs of a flare up coming on, and trying to address them as aggressively as possible with use of Airsupra, etc. Good luck!
