Has anyone lost vocal singing range and did it come back?

I had Covid in Jan 2024 and now, in May still have not recovered my singing range. It is like partial laryngitis. My throat is generally sore and gravelly by the end of the day - and sometimes all day. Has anyone had this and did your voice eventually come back? I am starting to worry that it is just gone.

I'm so sorry to hear about your problems with your voice! That must be very frustrating; especially since you like to sing. My husband has some voice problems that were caused by certain medications he takes for his lung cancer. His problem is mostly being hoarse. However, we have found that if he drinks a lot of water early in the day his voice stays with him longer. Also he takes a spoonful of molasses and one of honey daily. Molasses is a good source of iron and honey is a natural antibiotic. This seems to help his voice too.

I hope things work out for you.

I am not a professional singer but sing all the time. I had the changes you mention as well. I believe it's a histamine reaction. When I was first placed on ketotifen and famotadine, I got relief and surprisingly increased my range. In time my body adjusted to the meds and they aren't as effective as they once were (they are antihistamines by the way). Things are blooming here and I am hoping I get my voice back when all that settles down.

I lost range and lost enough laryngeal strength to make it hard to get through a song before it began to spasm and cramp. I left the church choir five years ago.. it was the only remaining opportunity to sing that I had. At the time it only affected my singing. Now it is starting to show up in ordinary speech. It’s frequently gravely and hoarse. Time to go back to the
