Has anyone had nerve ablation treatment for cervical neck pain?

Posted by helenrose @helenrose, 1 day ago

I have been having pain from arthritis and facet joints 4 and 5 narrowing for a while now. I am scheduled for the nerve ablation procedure and am worried about it, both that it won't work, or that it will cause me more pain then I have had before. I recently saw an acupuncturist which helped the pain for about 2 or 3 days. She is hard to get into see so I have another appt. in about 3 weeks. Also meeting with my doctor to talk more about the procedure. Also does anyone know if they use conscious sedation for this procedure? Thanks.

It has been a while since I have had ablation therapy. My doctor sedated me to do ablation on many occasions, it
at the time helped me more than anything and lasted 6-8 months. I have DDD and needed practically all my discs treated. Like you I was on the "path" of finding a treatment that helped. I stopped having it when it was necessary to have surgery. Just do one treatment at a time and have the courage to keep trying what you need at this stage in your treatment. I wish you well.

Hi! Yes I did 8 neck ablations at once. It was the worst thing I’ve ever done to this body. What you don’t get told is that it can affect your autonomic system so just do some more research about that before you decide to go ahead and do those ablations. Which was the most painfully disgusting experience I’ve ever had.

By the way for the neck oblations, they do not knock you out you’re sitting straight up wide awake and they put fentanyl and whatever else in your arm to keep you calm, but there’s no keeping you calm during neck ablation. It’s the most pain you’ll ever feel.

I've had ablations to several locations along my spine. I did receive some pain relief the 1st time it was performed, however, for me the subsequent ones gave me minimal to almost no relief at all.
I think being awake is important, since the MD needs to know if he's advancing the needle in the correct area, and may want to know if you experience any pain going down your leg, as an example. My procedure was somewhat uncomfortable, and during the procedure, I experienced pain. You can ask your physician about sedation.
Good Luck!

I had it done and I'm still in remission they give you 2 years if it lasts that long. And yes it works. I had to be put out for the procedure also. Beats opioids
