Has anyone had knee replacement after PMR?

I'm wondering how well muscles handle this surgery. I'm scheduled to have TKR in a month or so. The PMR is over, still on Kevzara.

PMR is Over?? I don't understand. It may be transient but is it ever “over”?

You're right. Poor choice of words there. I don't have it's symptoms and rheumatologist "said so". 🙂 🙂

@navymom154, I had my right knee replaced after I had PMR and the PMR was in remission. I think the best way to help have a successful recovery from knee replacement is to make sure you do the pre and post surgery leg exercises faithfully. My Mayo surgeon was a stickler for me doing the exercises prior to the surgery and after the surgery to help with the recovery. Fortunately my PMR is still in remission and I'm not on any medications for the PMR.

You mentioned you are still on Kevzara and the PMR is over. Is the Kevzara for the PMR?

I had both of my knees replaced while on Prednisone alone which was actively treating PMR. My symptoms of PMR were controlled but PMR wasn't over and gone. The orthopedic surgeon implemented additional precautions during and after surgery because I was being treated with Prednisone. Being on Prednisone wasn't ideal for knee replacement surgery but everything went well.

When I was off prednisone, I was being prepped for surgery on my lumbar spine. I was off Prednisone and only doing Actemra injections every week. Actemra is another biologic similar to Kevzara, The spine surgeon wouldn't do the spine surgery unless I could be off Actemra for a month before surgery and a month after surgery.

If you are still on Prednisone in addition to Kevzara that might not be the best circumstance for knee replacement surgery. That would be something to discuss with your surgeon.

I’ve had a knee replacement (and two other surgeries ( general anesthesia ) while on prednisone (5mg) and had no issues. PT is very important! And reaching the goals set by your doctor
