Has anyone had a tight band feeling after total knee replacement?

Posted by mhort1213 @mhort1213, Feb 28, 2019

I am 8 weeks post TKR and have had this very tight band around my knee since week one. My Dr at 6 wks says it is normal and will go away. Has anyone else had this and did it go away and when?

Yes, I too am struggling with tightness in my leg below the knee. I work out and do the exercises but after I rest it like seizes right back up again! I went to see my primary today and she said if the neuropathy happened right after tka surgery then most likely a nerve was not just stretched but cut maybe not all the way but maybe partially. She said this because I also have foot drop that happened right after surgery and now wear a brace so I dont trip over my "bad" foot and fall. I'm also on gabapentin for nerve pain or I wouldnt be able to sleep at night. Knee seems to be doing ok but got foot problems and nerve pain now I didn't bargain for dammit! I have had no change in these problems since trka 7 weeks ago. Primary said keep appointment with surgeon 1 month from now. But if i dont see any change to see another ortho guy for a second opinion and she would make the referral. I'll keep y'all posted. This sucks!!

It’s been 19 months since surgery. Have done a couple different stints of PT; doing home exercises still and also aquacize. Am considering trying laser therapy. My knee doesn’t hurt but that tight band feeling is VERY annoying!

I am 7 1/2 months out of surgery. The band of tightness is the entire lower leg abd snkle. No one has given me any answer as to why this is; nerve damage. myofascial issues, bone healing..... nothing.
Anyone at least know why this
Is happening?

That's just it. I can't flex my foot. I had to get the brace to hold my foot up so I stopped tripping over it and potentially fslling.

That sounds like dtop foot caused from peroneal nerve damage

The question I have never received a proper answer about is: EXACTLY WHAT CAUSES THE TIGHT BAND FEELING AFTER TKR?

Ha! I don’t think anyone knows! Surgeons and physical therapists do not seem to have an answer to that question. They may have guesses but even if they do have a guess, they certainly don’t know how to get rid of that tight band feeling. It either goes away on its own or it doesn’t go away at all. Too bad because it seems a good number of people have that problem after TKR.

Nerve injury during the surgery caused it
