Has anyone had a tight band feeling after total knee replacement?

Posted by mhort1213 @mhort1213, Feb 28, 2019

I am 8 weeks post TKR and have had this very tight band around my knee since week one. My Dr at 6 wks says it is normal and will go away. Has anyone else had this and did it go away and when?

@ladydiscdy 10 months out and I still have it tightness stiffness It’s probably scar tissue and synovial fluid.

I just read through the other comments; my therapist did tell me that it may be the IT band causing some issue. I do know massage works with me a lot. My doctor verified it’s not scar tissue and he too mentioned the IT band issue. I’m working through it and I am getting better. Like I said my knee was a mess and the strength was just not there. My strength is back and I’m almost at target weight using that leg. I just didn’t know what to expect.

I am 2 weeks from my 1 year post op and still experience tightness in my knee. Some days are better and some days are rough. Keep doing exercises and stretches.

Yes certainly have 4 1/2 years later Now two bursas have become very painful However have been told they can't be treated as it could affect the TKR
My ortho told me 5 months after the surgery I was one of the 15 to 20% who would likely have issues I also have inoperable scoliosis and stenosis and a few compression fractures plus a few fractures in my spine
This all happened end.if 2023 I am now 81 and am in line for hip orthoplasty on XS Tylenol. Am.in Canada

@deestb, You can have knee bursitis treated without harming the knee replacement. I have had both bursitis in all the knee bursae all at once and the treatment that got them to heal and that was at ten months post TKR. Sonar shockwave therapy made it all better. Shockwave is safe to use around implants. Get a better doctor. They should not just let you continue to suffer. If you have difficulty finding a doctor who is proficient with shockwave you might also call around to physical therapy plac

If I have ever seen a candidate for the Mayo Clinic you are it. If you can possibly get there, go!

I am two years post revision tka. I definitely had that feeling like a big elastic band was around my knee and now it's gone but I've done a lot of exercise and stretching and forcing my knee to flex as far as possible even kneeling and weight bearing. It's probably scar tissue. Massage etc isn't as effective as actually moving the knee in and out of the uncomfortable tight positions.

@sarau I had asked about them Manipulation under Anesthesia working on my scar tissue as could not bend as far as my non surgical knee. Was told since I am at 110-115 degrees they would not do it for another 5%. But I feel every rotation when I bike and we go 15-25 miles. Are there any specific exercises that you did to resolve yours? Thanks
