Has anyone had a tendon transfer following problematic anterior THR?
Hi - I am wondering if anyone has had a tendon transfer due to femoral neuropathy from hip replacement. First hip replacement 3 years ago was a disaster, the surgeon caused femoral nerve damage that now is permanent. My prosthesis literally fell apart. A new surgeon did a revision to fix the first problem but weakness and pain remained. Fast forward to now, I have moderate femoral neuropathy with denervation of hip flexors, quads, wasting and pain/spasm of TFL, quads, and glutes. I do struggle daily with walking, sitting/standing, stairs, etc. Trigger injections/steroids have helped as had long- term physical therapy, but I will never achieve any kind of normalcy with it, and it is straining the contralateral side. My surgeon would like to refer me to John Hopkins to consult for possible tendon transfer to facilitate some improvement in functionality. Nerve transfer window has closed for me as 3 years have gone by. Has anyone had a somewhat similar situation or had a tendon transfer? I am intrigued but it also seems daunting from the little I’ve read. Would love to hear from someone who has had it done and if it really improved the situation. Thank you!

Do you mean that you have foot drop? I've heard of tendon transfer for that.
@beedom No, I have heard of that also. This supposedly might help hip flexors or quads regain some strength.
I have no hip tendon due to multiple surgeries after partial hip replacement. I also have been told I need a hip tendon transfer but also have been told it may not correct the limp and will tJe a lot of post therapy . I will be interested in what you find.
@glen1 It appears to be a very long rehab. I will post after my consult.
@glen1 I think the limp you talk about is foot drop where you can't raise the front of your foot as you walk. I have it and wear a brace to help with that. Mine is because the nerve is dsmaged and afffcts the tendon wotking. There is lots online about tendon transfer.
No, this not foot drop. I lack a tendon in the hip due to multiple hip surgeries.
@glen1 Wishing you the best!
