Looking for anyone to share their experience after a Laminotomy which is different than a Laminectomy.

Thanks

@annie1 Anne, I'm glad you got through your surgery. From here out, it just takes patience while you wait for your body to heal. When I had my spine surgery at Mayo, there was no recommendations for supplements to help nerves heal. That is a long process and may take a couple years. The experience that I can relate to that is that I had very irritated nerves from an epidural injection that caused a reaction with burning electric shock pain that went on for a couple months. That left me with a hand that was sensitive to heat and cold, and that took a year and a half to resolve. There is no difference now. I would think that the same things involved in good health such as a nutritious diet and exercise like walking will help you heal, and what ever your recommendations are for supplements for osteoporosis since you need to heal some bone. Walking will help get the oxygen distributed through your body and that helps healing.

Are you able to tell this early if there has been improvement in your pain and functioning? You still have inflammation now of course, so it may take a while.

I still have throbbing calf muscles and cramping, of a different quality than presurgery which makes sleeping difficult if I happen to wake up and go to the bathroom etc or just wake up for some reason I can't really go back to sleep. Right now my legs are cramping up so I just got up instead of lying in bed. I was wondering if I can put some kind of CBD cream on areas that are cramping.

After my Cervical ADR, I developed major cramping in my feet and calves. My PCP gave me a med called Requip (sp) It works quite well most of the time. Good luck to you.

What is the name of that again ? They gave me Robaxin, but it is not working and also a semi opiod I think.

I have a big question, I have been getting rides in a car already, one week after my surgery and realize maybe that isn't smart, but I just got one today. I hope I'm not messing up my recovery. Can anyone answer that ? Also is it ok to pull in my Abs while sitting ?

I am eight days post op after a laminotomy at L-3-4. Is it safe to pull in my Abs while sitting ? My personal trainer/pilates teacher gave me a gentle exercise I do while sitting which engages my Abs. I pull my heels back towards til I feel my hamstrings working and my Abs lift up a little. Does anyone know if this is safe after the surgery ? As I said I had a laminotomy at L3-4. Thanks

In the name of that medication for the cramping. Also I don't know how much I should be sitting I read somewhere that I shouldn't sit more than 20 minutes in one position. So does that mean I have to be walking around constantly or lying in bed? My surgeon's office didn't tell me anything about that they just said listen to my body. Whatever that means but I've been reading other places not to sit more than 20 to 40 minutes in one position. I'll have to ask them on Monday

@annie1 You know who you should ask, right? And you can probably guess how I would answer. You are still healing, and need to fuse that little piece of bone(s) that was removed and reattached during the laminotomy. After that bone is solid, I'm sure you'd be able to do your normal routine.

Ok thanks again. So I should stay away from that AB exercise ? And I am having a hard time knowing what is considered bending that is Ok. They said no bending at the waist to pick things up of course, but little things, like plugging in my phone charger have to be negotiated. It is a little low on the wall. I have had to just stay upright but sort of do a little knee pointing down with sliding that leg out a little, like a tiny yoga lunge. I have to have the phone charged of course all my friends are calling and texting to come over to help me.

Also pulling the blanket over me at night I have to sort of pull it with my feet then slightly lean to pull it with my hands. I don't know if that is considered bending.
