Has anyone had a CT show 6 lung nodules (5mm, 3mm, 2mm plus)?
I have had lung nodules, multiple 5mm,3 mm, 2 mm (5 in total in my right lung with scar tissue in the lingula). I have had pulmonary nodules since 1999, starting with one nodule, and scar tissue. I am 87 years old, I live alone, do all my own cooking, no alcohol, no smoking, no cannabis use. I have faithfully checked in with a cancer center in Oregon, no diagnosis. I study my own issue, which I believe is GPA, Vasculitis.Grandulmatosis were found in my CT, showing the spleen enlarged with scarring from Granulomatosis.

Hi
@nancyeverest
, thank you for sharing your story with the Cancer Support Group—it’s truly inspiring to hear about your resilience and proactive approach to your health at 87! It sounds like you’ve been incredibly diligent in managing your care, from faithfully checking in with the cancer center to studying your condition on your own. That kind of strength and independence is remarkable.
I hear how you’ve been tracking these lung nodules since 1999 and suspect GPA (Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis) based on your research, especially with the CT findings of multiple nodules, scar tissue, and spleen enlargement. It must feel overwhelming at times to navigate this uncertainty without a clear diagnosis. I’m curious—how are you feeling about your situation right now, especially with the latest CT results? What’s been helping you stay so strong and keep up with your daily routines like cooking and living independently?
It’s amazing that you’re staying so engaged with your health, and I wonder if there’s anything specific you’re hoping to explore or learn more about with the group, like others’ experiences with lung nodules or GPA, or maybe next steps with your care team? We’re here to support you, and your insights might inspire others too!
You’re doing great with your self-care and research. Another consideration is DIPNECH. It’s a neuroendocrine disease with very slow growing lung nodules. It’s benign but considered pre-cancerous as it can progress to neuroendocrine cancer NETs. It took 12 years to diagnose my 50+ lung nodules. 20 doctors of various kinds didn’t figure it out. Do a search on this board for DIPNECH to read stories on those threads. You can also scroll through the neuroendocrine cancer support group topics. I was told I’ve likely had DIPNECH for decades. I had respiratory symptoms primarily coughing. It’s a non-smoking disorder that is typically found in women in their 50s and 60s. Very rare. Only 200-300 documented cases. Best of luck with your continued research and health.
@nancyeverest I saw your post, after getting the results of my own lung CT earlier today, and wanted to check in to see how you’re doing.
I can well understand concern when you see or are told about findings of lung nodules. Often times, we search for answers that might match the constellation of symptoms or findings on our medical records. Sometimes this results in a match, but more often than not, the diagnosis may not be accurate. Very frequently what we uncover or hear from others might be frightening; or we may follow suggestions that might not be best suited to our own particular situation. There are so many different types of conditions and a vast degree of variables. It can be overwhelming and confusing!
In the case of lung nodules, while those less than a certain size - such as yours and the ones revealed on my scan today and those that remain stable - are generally benign in nature, there are other characteristics that can be identified and evaluated by a physician, usually a pulmonologist, who may recommend additional follow up.
Have you consulted with your primary physician or had any other medical consults since your most recent scan?
I agree with the previous comments re Nancy, you are a very strong person no doubt about it. I admire you.
In ref to DIPNECH , do you have coughing and shortness of breath? those symptoms and your multiple nodules could indicate that is the cause.
I was diagnosed 7 years ago and even tho it is reportedly rare I believe there may be a lot of people out there with it and being treated for asthma. Keep us informed.
I do too. I came across this article when researching and it might interest or help you. https://www.healthline.com/health/lung-cancer/lung-nodule-size-chart
yes,, just recently nodules show up in left lung during full body CT as a rectal cancer follow up at Mayo
I saw my local internest in NC last week and she is going to send my CT to a pulmonologist for review . Follow up will be key and reading everything I can as in link posted below
I have not had respiratory issues at all ,, so this is indeed puzzling.. Thanks and let us know how you are doing !
@nancyeverest, how are you doing? Any update? What are next steps for you?
