Has anyone had a biopsy of their eyelid margin?

Posted by cudabinacontenda @cudabinacontenda, Jul 26, 2023

I’ve had a small (1mm) whitish, embedded teardrop-shaped lesion that extends from my eyeball to my lashes. My ophthalmologist said it looks like a stye that didn’t fully form and prescribed warm compresses qid, eyelid scrubs qid, and topical erythromycin at night. I’ve been doing this for nearly three weeks with no change seen in the lesions size or features. Has anyone had such a thing? Did you have a biopsy and how long after presentation? I understand eyelid-margin biopsies can be extensive and complicated, especially if the doc suspects sebaceous gland carcinoma. Can anyone share their experience?

I once had a calcium lump taken off my eyelid but it was smaller than yours...good luck !

Smaller than 1mm — that’s pretty small!

Sorry, I really don't know the size. Yours' just sounded bigger and more important.

Hello, I had a growth on my eyelid margin. My eye doctor thought it was a stye, so I used warm compresses. It did not go away. It was about 1 mm and I would cover it easily with eyeliner. No one noticed it, but me. After six months, it started to grow so I had a biopsy done at the eye clinic near my home. The biopsy was not painful and was done quickly. It was Merkel cell skin cancer, I was referred to Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Within two months of the biopsy, I had the tumor which was only 3 mm wide removed by surgery, then had 25 treatments of radiation. This was done in early 2020 at Mayo in Rochester, Minnesota. I have had PET CT and a full skin check every 6 months. I have since had one melanoma
Tumor removed from my arm. Mayo Health System has been working hard to keep me healthy and I am forever grateful to them. I would definitely get your bump biopsied. I was told many times that I was very lucky because we caught my tumor early, as it did not show spreading to the lymph system. I am a believer and know God loves and cares for his children. I am so thankful for prayers, and that I was able to receive medical treatment at Mayo Health System. I will pray for you that it will be nothing serious and you will get good results!

Eyelid margin growths are delicate procedures.
Best consultants are Mohs dermatology or oculoplastic surgeons. Biopsy is often needed for diagnosis.

Thanks, dreams. This was very helpful, albeit scary. I’m glad to hear you are doing well. I already have an appointment with an oculoplastic surgeon in 10 days to examine and likely biopsy this lesion that appeared about six weeks ago. So I hope I’m also in the early-intervention camp if the diagnosis is carcinoma.

You are so very welcome. Hoping and praying that the lump you have is benign. It is scary, I must admit, my faith and support from others have carried me through. I have found this connect site so helpful in many ways. Please keep me posted on your progress . 🙏

Dreams, one more question, if I may: What part of you undergoes CT/PET and how often?
