Has anyone gotten a breast infection while on anastrozole?

Posted by celestebradham @celestebradham, Sep 7, 2023

I started anastrozole mis- June 2023. I started having side effects maybe after a month, headaches, joint aches, moody, tired, fatigued… Dr ordered brain MRI all clear

Side note:
-( lumpectomy on left breast and reconstructive surgery on both. 4-4-23 missed margins. 2nd surgery 4-21-23 margins were good. 15 days radiation started anastrozole next week)

Before getting off anastrozole, My breast started hurting/ aching and me too… mainly left but right too. I contacted oncologist- concerning side effects and breast tenderness. Order ultrasound( went to local place, they saw a shadow near where cancer was, but thought it was marker- has to overnight disc to oncologist)Went off anastrozole 9 days ago. I went to local GP due to breasts hurting like mastitis( only way I can explain) and am on antibiotics. I’m feeling bunches better but left breast still doesn’t feel quite right. But honestly I’m not sure how it should feel. Should I be seen in person by oncologist?
This sound really scattered … sorry

@celestebradham, how are you doing? Has the infection been resolved?

Good morning. Infection is gone and bloodwork came back negative for infection being in blood. Had an ultrasound, found a cyst at 5 o’clock. I now have breast MRI next week, and appointment with my oncologist. I’m feeling good, but wish I had been seen by oncologist first thing.

Very glad this scary situation has been resolved and you are much better.
Are you back on the Anastrozole?

I am not back on anastrozole. I see oncologist next week, after MRI and I will discuss medication with her. I do want to be on a hormone blocker, but if it has caused the infection or cyst- I need options and data etc… I do have an appointment with an Integrated Medical doctor mid October.
