Has anyone found a treatment that helps with peripheral neuropathy?

Posted by bigjohnscho @bigjohnscho, Jul 1, 2025

I suspect that everyone on this forum has been searching for a medication that helps their neuropathy and even though you no that all the internet claims are false we continue to waste hundreds of pounds. Desperation is a powerful force. Has any one been fortunate enough to find a genuine treatment. I just can’t believe that there are so many awful people who prey on our vulnerability and knowingly orchestrate such elaborate scams.

Opioids work for me. I also take Duloxetine and it helps a little bit but the opioids take away almost all of my pain. I tried pretty much everything else and none of it worked and even tried physical therapy. It was suggested to try acupuncture but figured it was a waste of my time.

Pallative care orginally prescribed my opioids but they started to get weird and was pushing me to go to pain management. Hospital pain management stinks and they won't listen to you and good luck trying to get them to prescribe any opioids.After 9 months I had to go to an independent pain management clinic and got my opioids prescription through them.

@jkristov I have severe pain from the soles of my feet up to my lower waist, pain Dr's won't help me, say I'm drug seeking. I was devastated. I'm going to try to go to a methadone clinic, I've heard it can help. Here's to hoping for even a little relief.

Have you tried dietary modifications? How about exercise? Red light therapy has also been found to be helpful to many? There are often downsides to taking medications? There are benefits to a healthy diet and a smart exercise routine. Unlike medications, the holistic interventionst may take longer to see results but they can make a difference.

@jkristov Hi .Having gone thru all this I understand all that has been said.From pt telling me I belong in a home to being told by the neurologist there was nothing she do for me other then take neurontin.I had one doc who no longer lives in this country listened early of my complaint of pain and sent me to a pain clinic. The doctor there looked at me struggling to want in in pain put me immediately on pai n pills.I have never smoked or drank so this continues to be a problem for Me but to just move literally I need to take them.I don’t realist be needing them and still struggle to take them while I would beeper to function with them I struggle..I wait till I can’t function and can’t move anymore to finally take them .I have days I ca n make it without.The side effects a very challenging.In the early years I use complain of joint pain and ignored so I took lots of Motrin daily years later I have kidney disease . To add osteoarthritis later needing a knee bone on bone replacement.Also a spinal fusion due to a deteriorating spine .Ive what brief support I had and struggle to keep going. I find are quick to make you incompetent and dismiss you to a home.I was very vibrate loved to dance and travel independent and now my world is very small.Tried agencies to help but they made it I was med seeking even if going to diifrent medical supports. So I stay with my original doc in pain management and have been on the same dose the last few years I cannot a number of meds due to kidney disease and allergies.I would say to those struggling you do better with a pain clinic focused helping with quality of life.I was in pain for years before I got bad and each time to take Motrin. I am still told I don’t look sick until they read my chart .Some asked what med they took .Im on hydrcodone 7.5 with Tylenol up to 3 times a day.I Sedona need. 3 a day but those days I need them I have them available.This is a different life when have such illness that takes your vitilty.

.But I get silvers of f better life and that helps a little but I have to push myself which is so.hard . Hope have helped someone with my sharing

@arcuri24 Thank you for your kind input. I have tried all of the things you have mentioned as well as countless others. This is a last ditch effort, I need a life, not an existence, which is what I have now. A miserable one at that.

@joyz I suffered neuropathy some years ago in nerves between ear and upper teeth. Playing a lot of sax caused their myelin coating to wear off. Great pain. Ok after taking vitamin B12 daily.

For me, having been diagnosed with IPN in January, what has helped includes:
1. One prescription drug - Gabapentin - which I take 2-3 hours before bedtime;
2. Over the counter medications - R-Lipoic Acid, Magnesium Glycinate and a number of additional vitamins recommended by a number of top rated medical journals.
3. Exercise every day if even for 15 minutes. If you can, move your body, especially walking.
I didn't list the amount of the above medications because you need to start off slowly until you find the right dosage for you. BUT, let me make this clear - what I take has been a big help for me but I'm not a doctor and, what works for me doesn't mean it will work for you!
P.S. Don't waste your money on all the scams on the internet - No matter what anyone says - There is no cure. If there was, you would have heard that already from Mayo Clinic, Harvard Medical, Cleveland Clinic etc. etc,, already!!!

thank you, I must get off pregabalin because a side effect is swollen calf muscles, swollen feet and ankles. I have severe pain and my legs have red areas, indentations and are very soar most of the time. No one can barely touch them.
