Has anyone experienced incontinence after HOLEP surgery ?

Posted by azfox66 @azfox66, 3 days ago

I recently had HOLEP surgery at the end of 2024. One of my main issues nine weeks later is incontinence or leakage. Been doing kegels but it still persists. Has anyone else experienced this and for how long?

I had Holep January 21st. Wore diapers for 3 days and no trouble until recently began leaking at night. Had no trouble for almost a month. I don't know what to expect next. LOL

It took 6 months after my HOLEP surgery before I was fully recovered with no after effects. Which included incontinence, not fully voiding and burning sensations when I urinated. It takes time for your body to adjust, I would continue doing the exercises and see if things improve. I am 18 months out and have no regrets.

I had HOLEP on 3 Dec 24. Have had incontinence since the surgery. Did my 3 month follow up and the doctor told me to keep doing the kegel/pelvic floor exercises. I do them every day. I have gone from 6 to 7 diapers per day to 3 per day. Things started really changing when I hit the 3 month mark. Very little leakage at night. Mostly happens when I am up and about. Don't give up.

Did you experience strong bruning sensation when peeing, after HOLEP? Did you make the surgery with a procedure called MILEP (less invasive)? How do you hidrate yourself knowing that after drinking a lot of water you have to pee painfully? How do you cope with this? Medicines help to relieve the pain? Thank you

The burning was not strong but was uncomfortable. I stayed the course, stayed hydrated and took Tylenol for the pain. I am not familiar with MILEP.

Thank you very much for your answer. I´m planning to make a MILEP, which use a less invasive technique, but I´m very afraid of pain when urinating, which I have when I did a PAE. I hope I can drink a lot of water after and that pain relievers work.

So the PAE was not successful?

I´ve done PAE in 2017. At first, I have a good improvement ( strong urine stream). After 3 months the stream weakened by 50% and remained, but BPH symptoms like difficult and frequent urination returned in February, 10. I´m trying to know if it can be a prostatitis too, but its diagnostic is a bit complicated because BPH symptoms are very similar to prostatitis, and BPH too, can cause prostatitis. So I´m a bit confused by all of these things
