Harrington rods and complications

Posted by lisa7777 @lisa7777, Jul 1, 2020

I am new here but like many of you I had scoliosis resulting in surgery, and Harrington Rods .I was 15 and I am 59. I had 48 degree curve in my thoracic area. For the last 14 yrs. I have numerous other spine problems. everything above and below my rods is starting to give me issues. I've been in pain management for yrs. I just need someone to tell me that the problems I'm having now are the results of having spinal fusion 45yrs. ago when I wasn't done growing

Hi! Strange, I wasn't able to access this chat/question yesterday, so I think I replied to you via the private chat.

Hi Cori,
Maybe it was a temporary system problem. Yes, I received your private message.

In addition, to the tools suggested, I highly recommend a dressing stick. It's not only helps with dressing, you can use it to open drawers and do all sorts of things.

Depending on how much is fused, it may be hard to wipe your rear after surgery. My doctor suggest a bidet (which I bought), but you can find a variety of toilet aids on Amazon. I tried a couple. I posted a pic of the one I liked. Mine measures 12 inches.

A bed rail was also recommended. I used one for the first 2 1/2 months after surgery. (Fortunately, mine was furnished by my hotel.) You can always order one if needed.

Cori, I also highly recommend you ask to go to inpatient rehab following your hosital stay. (My eligibility was determined while I was in the hospital.)
The physical therapy and occupational therapy at the rehab facility is very helpful.
Best Wishes!

Yes, others have suggested a bidet as well. Thank you for these ideas!
