Hair shedding/thinning? For both women and men, young and old

Sorry, I buried this in another thread of mine. I searched this board and this is a topic that doesn't seem to be in recent discussion:

Has anyone else experienced their hair thinning? In my last 6 month study with Endeavor Health, it was one symptom I was asked about weekly in a 20-minute survey.

I don’t know if my hair is thinning as normal male pattern baldness. I do know a friend that had long Covid and said her pony tail doesn’t seem as thick. She said her hairdressers were chatting about how weird it is that so many women’s hair seems thinner. Now I can understand why that question was in the research- to collect data on if there’s a connection between hair loss/thinning and long Covid. Anyone have a similar hair experience? I’ve never had long hair and have no personal experience.

I had beautiful thick long curly hair. During covid and it's extended symptoms, every time I changed from one phase to another (ie cough to extended sleep period, etc) my hair fell out as if I was having chemotherapy. So now my hair is super thin and no longer curly. It continues to fall out and as my scalp starts to show, I wonder if I will need to buy wigs soon...

I had a lot of hair thinning as well, eyebrows too. It seems as though covid can mess with your endocrine system. My hormones were all jacked up and also became hypothyroid which can cause thinning hair and brows. Maybe go to an endocrinologist to check hormone levels. I’ve been taking thyroid hormone as well as estradiol, testosterone and progesterone for about a year and my hair is growing back pretty quickly.
Much luck to you!

new to this site and grateful to find out that all the things including thinning hair that i never had before my postcovid diagnosis are being experienced by others … i have been told by multiple health professionals that they are unrelated to my diagnosis

I’m new to this as well. I’ve also been told by so many specialists I’ve seen that one doesn’t have anything to do with Covid, vaccines or long covid. Which seems so strange to me because I had no ill health previously. I suppose they’re all still learning too. Frustrating though! It does mess with my trust of the medical system in general.

After my second bout of covid, my hair started falling out, a lot. I was scared because it wasn't stopping but after a month, it finally slowed down and now I am back to normal hair loss. I definitely have a smaller ponytail.

I had Covid in January 2023 that became complicated with bilateral Covid pneumonia. I lost nearly half of my hair. As part of my treatment I was given multiple rounds of high dose steroids. My hair finally stopped shedding after several months and began to grow back. I’m happy to report I have recovered all my hair and maybe a bit more. I naturally have a lot of hair. Pics of before, during and after
