Hair shedding/thinning? For both women and men, young and old

Sorry, I buried this in another thread of mine. I searched this board and this is a topic that doesn't seem to be in recent discussion:

Has anyone else experienced their hair thinning? In my last 6 month study with Endeavor Health, it was one symptom I was asked about weekly in a 20-minute survey.

I don’t know if my hair is thinning as normal male pattern baldness. I do know a friend that had long Covid and said her pony tail doesn’t seem as thick. She said her hairdressers were chatting about how weird it is that so many women’s hair seems thinner. Now I can understand why that question was in the research- to collect data on if there’s a connection between hair loss/thinning and long Covid. Anyone have a similar hair experience? I’ve never had long hair and have no personal experience.

ericy210, Yes, you can shed a lot of hair from COVID. Mine kicked in about 4 months after the fact. It was shedding a lot.

3/4 of mine has grown back, but, it took time and patience. I personally did not shampoo my hair as much, bought a good shampoo (expensive) Pureology strength cure and conditioner. It is very concentrated and a little goes a long way. It was recommended by my hairdresser. I'll have to say, it has helped my hair.

Try not to wear your hair in a pony tail (tension on the hair) or pulled back tight in a bun. I found this made my come out worse as I saw more shedding doing that. Let your hair air dry if possible.

Praying. Blessings to you & yours....

Yes! My hair started shedding and thinning! This along with both knees and Achilles swollen. So far, nothing is working on either. I start Bimzelx this week. Fingers crossed!

I bought a hair “thickening” cream.
After starting Hydrea my hair thinned.
With time, and possibly the Redken product, it feels thicker.

Check the side effects of all new meds!
You can also lose hair from Stress. (I tried chair yoga for awhile!)

I have lost substantial amount of hair that has always been abundant, and my eyebrows are now barely visible. My hairdresser agreed that she has. many, many clients with this long covid symptom......some severe.

Interestingly I asked my beautician about shedding excessive amounts of hair just last week. She attributed it to a surgery I had late last year. Or perhaps, it is attributable to an serious stressor on the body, which would include COVID, or long COVID?

I had thick hair before I got Long Covid. Not only is it thinning but now I am starting to see bald spots.

Experience has proven to me that Long Covid definitely contributes to hair loss. It is added to aging, stress, heredity and other already existing medical conditions. Aging is NOT for "sissies" BUT we are still *here.* 'Nuff said!

I’ll say ! As a woman I have lost so much hair and it is quite obvious. And it’s still coming out.

I had excessive shedding too, but it’s stopped. I am taking oral Minoxidil, since I’m not sure if the cause is definitely long covid. But that’s when it started.

I had beautiful thick long curly hair. During covid and it's extended symptoms, every time I changed from one phase to another (ie cough to extended sleep period, etc) my hair fell out as if I was having chemotherapy. So now my hair is super thin and no longer curly. It continues to fall out and as my scalp starts to show, I wonder if I will need to buy wigs soon...
