Hair loss with ET and on hydroxyurea
I have ET and am on hydroxyurea 500 ml and aspirin. I have been on it for 2 1/2 years. It has been gradual but my hairs texture is different. It is thinning and I was wondering if anyone has found good shampoos and conditioners to help with this problem.

Hi @sandy1959, while not specific to essential thrombocythemia and its treatments, I thought you might be interested in this related discussion:

Like other chemotherapy drugs, hydroxyurea may cause temporary loss of hair in some people. After treatment has ended, normal hair growth should return, although the new hair may be a slightly different color or texture. With that in mind, you might appreciate this related discussion:

I started taking Biotin when I knew I would eventually have to start HU. Also , massaging your scalp every day also helps . I haven’t heard of any shampoos that would help, but there may be some that might say they thicken your hair . I started HU today, so I will see if any of this helps
I have PV and experienced hair loss when taking Hydroxyurea 7 days a week but it lessened once they reduced my dosage. Everyone says it’ll stop once you stop the medication but with Polycythemia Vera, you take the drug for life 😐 Will you be taking it also for life? Not sure of any product that can resolve this. It beats stroking out or having and throwing a clot still, so I try to focus on that. Good luck!
