Had surgery on bulging discs, stenosis, bone spurs in back, not right
Just joined this group a few minutes ago. I read several comments from way back in 2019. All very interesting. I am sorry so many people have to deal with this. This is something very new to me. I haven’t read anything that sounds like my situation on here yet but I feel certain there are those out there who can relate. I have back issues & am suppose to have a big 2 day back surgery coming up in the Fall. When I filled out forms severeal months ago for my upcoming surgery I remember the question about having incontinence & I was thankful that I did not have to check that box. I do not have urinary incontinence but now suddenly I am having issues with bowel leakage. I initially googled this morning to see what information is out there & quickly came across this site. Apparently my issue seems to be happening because of nerve damage. I have a crushed nerve from wear & tear. I am 71 & I work hard in my yard on a regular basis. I have always loved manual labor & being outdoors. We live on a little ranch so there is always work to do, horses & all. I spend a lot of time gardening & have planted all of the small trees,, almost 40 of them & do all of our landscaping. We had a new house built 3 yrs ago & I did all of the interior painting. I am very thankful to be able to still work the way I like. I was unable to work like I am accustomed for about 8 months after my first back surgery last year. I had 3 bulging discs, stenosis & lots of bone spurs in my lower back. The neurosurgeon went in & clean everything up, apparently. But after several months something wasn’t right. My pain was excruciating. Went to a new doc who confirmed the first surgeon did a good job of cleaning up & making plenty of space for that one nerve. However he missed seeing another nerve that my new doctor said, is not being pinched like the other nerve had been but this one is being crushed. He said this is why you have been unable to get off of your pain meds. I do not like taking medication but there is no way I can function without it. I have been on pain meds ever since my back surgery a year ago last month. After many attempts to relieve my pain I had to have a bilateral, triple ablation. It took 6 weeks to work but since then I have been able to work in my yard like I want since the beginning of April. And I have cut way back on my pain meds. I am so grateful to feel like myself again. However, this is a temporary break from my excruciating pain, which I needed physically & mentally. I am certainly hoping the ablation will continue to work until I have my back surgery where they will replace 2 or 3 discs & possibly put a rod or rods in my back from my degenerative bone disease. Not looking forward to the big surgery but I don’t think about it much. Enjoying the present. I am certainly hoping once I have this surgery it will reverse this new issue. Thanks for your time.
