H. Influenza

I was prescribed and have started taking Augmentin for 7 days due to H. Influenza positive sputum culture. I read that Augmentin covers this bacteria group and is used to inhibit drug resistance within this group. Hopefully, this is the case and will clear this up.
Question; do those of you who have had this in your sputum culture have it clear with this treatment? And is it standard to do a sputum culture after the 7 day treatment to check for clearance?

In the many times I've taken Augmentin for an exacerbation, I've never provided a sputum culture after the course of antibiotics. An exception would be if I wasn't feeling better after the 7 days course. Generally, speaking augmentin has worked well for me in clearing up infections including h. influenza.

I have taken it for that, but I’m not doing it anymore unless I develop symptoms. I worry about developing MDRO’s from too much antibiotic exposure.

I understand and worry about that also. I felt I had to resort to taking it as I could not get my sputum to get back to it's normal despite airway clearance. I was not overtly ill (fever, etc), but it was increasingly wearing me down.

Hi Scoop, may I know the dose you have taken? My doctor just prescribed me 875-125mg. I assume 2 times a day. My body can't handle high dose and I have never taken this. How was your experience with this?

That was my dosage twice daily for 7 days. It did the job and I felt so much better!

Thank you very much. I just got the medication, and it is for 10 days. I'm 113lb, I'm concerned if the dose is right for me. I messaged the doctor to check. Thank you!

@sweethighland Augmentin is a broad spectrum abx commonly prescribed. I've had little problems taking it. I am careful to take with a full meal.
