Guidance Needed: Investigating flying to Mayo in Minnesota

Posted by barbarakatz @barbarakatz, Mar 16, 2018

Hello members. I've just begun investigating the possibility of flying to Mayo in Minnesota to try and get a proper diagnosis. Would appreciate any advice regarding the most reasonable flights (from NJ), places to stay, etc. My main problem is inability to walk more than half a block so location to clinic would be important. Thanks!

Mayo Clinic is - of course! - perhaps the best but maybe there are other clinics about as good that are close to you, viz, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, University of Pennsylvania Hospital center, or maybe you could call Mayo and ask "Do you have any clinics / can you recommend any clinics for the treatment of _________ - who are the best clinics - near ______________., New Jersey.

Try Googling US NEWS AND HEALTH REPORTS - they publish a yearly listing of all hospitals, doctors, by specialty. Good luck. As I'm a New Yorker, New York Presbyterian is top notch in the country!

Just responded earlier - s/b New York News and World Report ----- best source of info. There are many good hospitals (although I don't know what you're being treated for) in NYC and right in NJ and I'm a stickler!

Hi shoregal45. Jersey shore? Spent my summer girlhood years down there. Have you had experience with Mayo? Is that why you're suggesting NY and NJ hospitals?

Hello @babarakatz, Welcome to Mayo Connect. Sounds like some very good information that @rosemarya shared about contacting Concierge Services. I also googled about the possibly of being able to rent a mobility scooter in Rochester, Minn. to get around on while traveling through the hospital or from a hotel close by. There appears to be a company called Med City in Rochester that may be able to help at a reasonable rate with daily, weekly, and monthly rates. Since I live in the south I'm not familiar with what Mayo Clinic offers for out of town patients. We use a small scooter and it gets around pretty good.
Perhaps Concierge Services could offer some info. Just a thought.

No thank God I haven't been in a hospital since the 90's and I hope that covers it!!! I am a Jersey Shore summer gal ever since birth! I always check out Mayo's website when I do my researching as they are my "go to" spot. Other than their newsletters and this Connect I don't have any reason to check with them for doctors, etc. as there are so many good ones in NYC there's no need, thank God. Good luck to you.
