Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra, Volunteer Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)
  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful
  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle’s full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven’t yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

@debbraw

Today I'm grateful for a friend who has offered to pick up my pain medicine and bring it to me after surgery. I live about an hour from Mayo – Jacksonville. They are so strict now on pain medication because of the opioid crisis. They cannot call the prescription in to a local CVS. Someone has to appear in person and pick up a paper prescription. I was going crazy trying to figure out how to manage this when my friend who lives in Jacksonville offered to get it and bring it down to St. Augustine. I'm seeing a pattern here. I'm increasingly grateful for one friend or another or many. Friends are the best!

@lioness – I don't understand what tapping is. Can you tell more?

@debbraw you have some very caring friends, that’s wonderful. I don’t think many people would put themselves out that much.

@debbraw How did your operation go .? You sound good in your post. Yes tapping is 2 parts it is Chinese acupressure and phychology ? We have Meridians in out system and these you tap on at the same time saying what your problem For instance first you tap 3 times on the side of your hand sayin Your problem then but I still and completely love myself. Then each other part eyebrow side of eye under eye under nose in crack of chin color bone under arm and top of head there is a better explanation on Tapping solution.com since you have time look it up also there are You Tube videos Nick Ortner Dr Bob Procter and others I tapped on my back telling back I was sorry I hurt it and didn't take care of it then some other stuff I think you,ll find it helpful .

I am very interested!

I'm going to look into this more. It's very intriguing.
Thank you,

Today I am grateful that I am feeling better after a short bout with a stomach bug. I can return to work today in the cold and the wind. Maybe I'm not so grateful after all? 😉
Blessings,

@lioness they wouldn't want to be around here, they'd freeze to death! It's supposed to get down to zero tonight.

Although that is a bit on the chilly side it would be nice to live where I could experience all 4 seasons. But with those temps it might be the last place I ever live.

@jodeej I'm glad you are over your stomach bug. The weather here is also raw and rainy. I have two appointments this afternoon and I dread having to go to them.
How is Tim's speech therapy working out? I presume it does take a while to see results.

I really hope we are out of those single digit temperatures. It's 53° here now. I don't mind the thirties and high twenties, but colder than that is miserable.

@jakedduck1 I would recommend Virginia to you. The seasons occur, but are milder than up north and the heat is not as bad as in the south. If I was to move elsewhere, that's where I would head. If my daughter had stayed there after college it would have been a strong possibility.
