Granuloma Annulare: Any ideas for treatment?

It's been a minute since you last shared. How is your condition and what if any was the resolve?

In difficult situations a consultation with a university clinic
Dermatology group is worth the effort. Disease modifying
injectables such as Humira or the new JAK inhibitor drugs
can be prescribed off label. There are also some new topicals that can help.
They are costly but the new limited copay for Medicare is
$ 2000 yearly. I have taken advantage of the monthly
payment program of 181 dollars to spread out the cost for Humira.

I’ve had it my whole life. Diagnosed through a biopsy when I was in my 20’s. Thankfully it’s mild - I get occasional smaller spots that clear quickly with clobetasol (topical cream) and every now and then (maybe 3 times in 30 years) I’ll get a larger spot that grows and seems more resistant to meds (steroid injections or creams) and can take a couple of years or more to clear. Typically on my legs. I recently found a company that sells cream for eczema (which I don’t have) - and thought I’d try it based on reviews. It seemed to clear all sorts of skin conditions for people. I had an active spot on one leg. It has completely disappeared with the cream. I don’t know if it was just good timing and I’m giving the cream more credit than I should but it went from inflamed to nonexistent really quickly. I had googled and tried all kinds of things that others said worked for them that did nothing for me. Supplements, meds, etc. I know one thing doesn’t work for all but this one worked for me so I wanted to share! The company is Marin and the cream is the soothing hydration cream. Hopefully it works for someone else too!! Good luck!

I posted - I tried a cream by Marin that worked. I know everyone has all sorts of things they try and for me - none of it worked. This cream did though for whatever reason. It’s cheap and easy to get so may be worth a shot. Good luck!

Have you tried baby diaper creme with the 40% zinx oxidide. There are facebook groups out there now.

Hey there. Drinking 1 cup of raw milk per day cured my GA. I had it for about 6 years prior, tried various steroid creams, autoimmune protocol (have T1 Diabetes and Hashimotos), and steroid injections (which worked but were not sustainable). My family started a hobby farm after we had kids and we started drinking raw milk with this lifestyle, and about a year later my GA was gone. It was discovered by accident, but couldn't be happier and doing this was such an easy change. We find it at our local co-op grocery store in WA. it tastes the same as pasteurized and we've never gotten a food born illness from it. If I stop drinking it for a couple weeks, the GA starts coming back as raised bumps along the edges of where it used to be, mostly on my feet, ankles and knees. I believe the raw milk aids with my supposed 'leaky gut', and with this, inflammation goes down - skin clears. Hope this might help you too!

Hello! I realize that I am responding to a post that was written in 2023, but I have Generalized Granuloma Annulare which sounds exactly like what you experienced. I was diagnosed in December of 2025. I am wondering what treatments you have tried & were any successful? My dermatologist just wants me to take high powered, lots of side effects drugs. I have tried steriod creams which have done absolutely nothing. My GA is on the back of my thighs as well as on my torso on my back. When I sit for a while the back of my thighs become very painful. I have very little itching, but the rash is very unsightly, & looks like I sat in acid.
It is spreading so I want to treat it, just don't know where to turn. I have researched a laser called an excimer laser that is a light laser. I am considering trying if I can find a Dermatologist that has it. I do not know if anyone has tried this for GA. I would be very grateful for a reply from you concerning your journey with this condition.

Sorry you are suffering. I've been treated for GA going on 3 years. Fortunately I have no pain. The 1st Dr I saw wasn't knowledgeable with GA and didn't know what he was treating until after 1 year he took a biopsy and referred me to a Dr who specializes in skin disease and not superficial/ cosmetic treatments.
Dr #2 prescribed
Tofacitinib 2% ointment 2Xs per day and I've been using for over a year. Some GA patches are no longer "active" others continue to be red and raised around the edges. These have subsided. Dr #2 has chosen not to prescribe drugs with so extreme side effects or laser treatment. Thankfully, my lesions haven't spread since using Tofacitinib.
Maybe you could research another Dr who is less invasive with treatments.
I do pray you find relief from your suffering.
