If you took GLP-1s for weight loss, did it help your Neuropathy?
Wondered if anyone has experience with Neuropathy, with or without T2 Diabetes, was overweight, went on the GLP-1 medications, lost weight and got A1C down, and saw improvement or elimination of Neuropathy symptoms? or went thru all that and saw no improvement of PN?

I have been taking Mounjaro for almost a year and have lost about 40 pounds. I have been able to eliminate 2 blood pressure medications and have cut the third one in half. However, taking Mounjaro has had NO impact on my peripheral neuropathy. I still take 900mg of Gabapentin 3 ties per day and 60mg of Duloxetine to tamp down the pain and tingling. I am bothered by frequent leg cramps at night.

1 Reaction@rick1959 I have been on GLP 1 since mid June. I have lost about 13 lbs. I have not notice any real change in neuropathy symptoms. My symptoms varied to some extent every day before I started GLP 1.

1 ReactionHi,
My experience with GLP-1 drugs has been a total disaster. It locks up my already sluggish digestion and bowel. Yes it did wonders for T2D but over the last 5 months I have been through hell on it. Everytime I managed to eat the body paniced forcing the liver to dump huge amounts of glucose into the body to fight the perceived threat, resulting in massive glucose highs and trips to ED. If you have any digestive problems these drugs are not for you. The one I have been trialing was dulaglutide which works by slowing the digestion to ease the glucose load.
Tread cautiously.
Cheers

2 ReactionsGood morning all. This week Medicare will begin to cover the cost of prescription GLP-1 drugs [weight loss] at a cost of $50.00 a month, with some preconditions. There has been some preliminary reports that these medications reduce neuropathic pain and reduce nerve inflammation. Other reports indicate the exact opposite, that the medications actually worsen symptoms. Anyone have any direct knowledge either way? All replies welcomed.

3 Reactions@tsinnc I agree with you. I have a friend that has been overweight all his life. I live with him and I can tell you that he eats less than I do at 5'2 and 119 lbs. I cook from scratch and he still doesn't loose weight. Many times it is genetic. He is wanting to start GLP-1 but cautious of the side effects.
Thank you for your info

1 ReactionI have not been diagnosed with neuropathy, my PC doctor says I don't have it. What I have I didn't know. My feet and hands tinkle at times to point of numbness especially when trying to go to bed. I am sitting in recliner as I write this and my hands have the stinging/numbness sensations. I have a 3rd vertebrae out of wack (just found out due to a CAT scan a year ago). I have thought my hands and feet maybe due to vertebrae. Not sure. My point to all this - is have been on zepbound for a year now. It has not helped with the symptoms I have discussed (if they are neuropathy related). If anything. I havr noticed my numbness worse than a year ago. My symptoms wake me up at night. I'm lucky if I get over three to four hous of sleep at night. So frustrating. People have said when you start trying to get professional diagnosis of nerve issues that one "goes in circles" and spending a large amount of money trying to get resolution . One lady spent over a year with doctors trying to find out reason for the very same issues I have. She has no resolutions. She has had all the scans. MRIs, vitamin deficiency testing to find no answer. She has even been to specialist at Duke hospital. For this discussion, zepbound did NOT help. Would be interested if anyone has experience with the tickling/numbness issues that I have.
