Genicular nerve block/ablation, PRP and Toradol

Posted by mabfp3 @mabfp3, Oct 26, 2025

Just wondering if anyone has had this procedure done on a knee. I had a knee replacement five years ago and can’t ever put myself through that again. My other knee is bone on bone and is painful. An orthopedic doctor recommended this procedure to me but did say that it sometimes needs to be repeated because the nerves regenerate. Would love to hear from anyone who has had this experience. Thanks very much! MaryAnn from Boston

@kathynv. Following, please come back and post your results. I'm in the same boat and will be having my gnb on 11/22, hoping to try to postpone TKR. Crossing my fingers for you for pain relief.

@toothyk9 Please let me know how it goes. I did have my right knee replaced and it was a very rough surgery. My knee has never been the same. I will do whatever I can to relieve the pain. My dr suggested this procedure and even though it is temporary (I guess that the nerves regenerate), he told me that it can be done again. I have to find out if it is covered by insurance. All of my best wishes to you with the procedure on 11/22.

@mabfp3 PS. My right knee is replaced……it’s the left knee that is now bone on bone.

Sorry to hear that you and everyone else posting have not had a good result with TKR.
I am 2 years post TKR 12/23). A disaster. I have had inflammation, swelling and a lot of pain especially on the lateral side. The worst pain is walking downhill and stairs which are the unbearable. Four opinions including UCSF and Stanford. Diagnosis is 'instability' which I believe is a catchall for when there is no obvious problem observed or tested.
Based on this information and opinions I had a partial revision 7/25. A new insert was installed that is semiconstrained with the same thickness to make the knee more stable. It did not help and the pain seems to be worse. The surgeon observed during revision that my implant is well fixed and aligned with proper soft tissue balancing. I believe that there was nerve damage during the TKR but I have not had one surgeon state that this may be the cause.
I had RF nerve ablation 10/25 and unfortunately no relief. I would consider a full revision if any surgeon could tell me that it has a good chance of success and stating that it is a 50/50 proposition is not acceptable.
