Anyone elso had RA in their family (Genetic Rheumatoid Arthritis)?
Our family currently has five members with Rheumatoid Arthritis. They range in age from 84 to three. Has anyone else had this number in their family? My 6 year old great grandson was just diagnosed and it's hard to understand. Thank you.

@vafan, welcome. I moved your question about rheumatoid arthritis running in families (genetic) to the Autoimmune Diseases support group where you can connect with other members who have experience with RA. I'm sad to see that his has affected such young members of your family.
According to this article
"Rheumatoid arthritis is not considered an inherited disorder. However, having certain genes may increase the risk of developing it." "People with specific genes called HLA class II genotypes may be at a higher risk of developing RA. "

@vafan, do you know if your family members have HLA class II genotype? Have you met with a genetic counsellor to discuss?
Thank you for your reply. No, we haven't but it's probably a good idea. The members of the family are me, two granddaughters, a 6 year old great grandson and a 3 year old great granddaughter. It breaks my heart but they are coping. These are all from my daughter who does not have the disease. Thank you again for your info.
Does anyone take kineret? My husband has pseudo gout and pseudo rheumatoid arthritis. All other meds tried he had allergies to. This one is working along with colchicine and various other medications for HBP: etc. day 90 of kineret can’t hold a farmer down!! Praise God this is working! We did go to Mayo 2 nd opinion. He said our small town Dr. was right on track! We travel almost 2- hours to our Dr. who is learning about this nasty autoimmune disease along with us! Hang in there! Mayo would be a great start!
Hi. I have RA, but from time to time other things like gout pop up. I also had a round of colchicine for unrelenting rib pain following a lobectomy a couple of years ago. I am accustomed to taking scary drugs for my RA but balked at colchicine. Would you share what your husband’s experience has been? I still have the rib pain. Steroids help tremendously but you can’t stay on them long.
Our understanding is that he will be on the colchicine / kineret the rest of his life. Blood wk every 6 months and TB test I believe yearly. He hoped to wean off of steroid, but I’m not sure if he can. Was down to 2.5 mg but had to go back to 5. We went through about 6- medications that he had side effects on before trying our last med available for him to try. He will be on this regimen unless an allergy would occur. This all started back in the summer of 2022. He also has been on allopurinal and bp med. was taken off of his statin drug and no plans on going back on that so I need to get him to eat healthier as cholesterol is slightly elevated. Eye exams by an ophthalmologist are a must! He is 75 and pretty fit otherwise! Actively farming with no plans to retire!!! Stubborn and hard to slow down! Has been on the colchicine since 2023. Hope that info helps. Hang in there!
Sorry. He is 65!!!!
