General information - Afib after heart ablation
I have afib and have written about it in this group in the past. I am a 73 year old woman and had a heart ablation about 2 years ago. I know the ablation has helped but not ended my afib condiition. I go into afib about 4-5 times a month and sometimes less. My question is a number of times it happens when I am out with family or friends and am having a hard time dealing with it with other people around. Does anyone have any suggestions? My heart rate will go to 200 in less than a minute. I was in a restaurant last night it was packed with people. There was no where to lie down and my car was over 15 minutes away. My understanding is there is nothing I can do. There is no medication I can take that will stop it quickly. Is this true? Any other suggestion is appreciated. Thanks.

@elegantgem Hi Gem, im not really an Afib person my problems were VT but a few things to realize with any issues like this is lifestyle besides meds and a pacemaker. So things you mentioned in your posts from April would suggest trying to look at some of the areas mentioned. For me the triggers beside stress were Sleep apnea, Any Alcohol, too much caffeine. And then watching things like Potassium, Magnesium levels are some of the simple things that effect rhythm. But some rather mild episodes depending on length go away by themselves. I would talk to an EP Cardiologist who specializes in Afib as even within the Cardiology area they specialize. Now Afib is very common so finding a specialist usually is not to difficult. And if you have had a sleep study and have sleep apnea, a well fitting cpap therapy is important to keep your Heart from getting worse. When you stop breathing you Heart suffers a lot and weakens it. So I hope that helps. Please ask any specific questions you have.
