Anyone on Gemcitabine with Abraxane? How long? Effective?
Hi, I'm Helena from South Africa. I have been diagnosed with PC, stage 4, in March. Tumour between body and tail and with one lesion on my liver.
I have been on Folfirinox for 3months, but it had no effect, allthough my markers came down from 3091 to 357, the tumour increased in size and there is another lesion on my liver.
I have started Gemcitabine with Abraxane.
Has anyone been on Gemcitabine/Abraxane?
If so, how long and how effective is this treatment?

I was diagnosed in Dec. 2024 and had 14 treatments ( 7 sessions of 2 weeks on, one week off) of Gemcitabine/Abraxane. I lost my hair, was very weak and tired and have minimal neuropathy in my feet, but tolerated it. The size of the tumor did not change but there may have been some killing of internal cells, possible necrotic tissue internally. I am also on Nivolumab immunotherapy for lung cancer, no mets from either. I was hoping to be a candidate for Whipple surgery, but my tumor was 4.2 x 4.8 cm. and needed to shrink away from a major vein and artery and reduce in size. The chemo did not accomplish that BUT I underwent 5 SBRT radiation treatments in September and it looks like it may have worked ( haven't spoken to the surgeon yet, just reading radiology report). I had the radiation done without using markers in order to be eligible for Nano-knife procedure. It's a relatively new procedure that not all hospitals have. I'm receiving treatment at CPMC San Francisco and as of last year has done more than 100 of them. It doesn't have a lot of history as far as survival rates, but the Whipple sounded pretty awful and the survival rates weren't great.
I am 78 years old and have been through 4 different cancers in 19 years. Hope your dad has good results. Oh, the oncologist and surgeon didn't think that another chemo drug would be effective hence the move to radiation. So far so good. Hope your dad has good results. Every one is different and reacts differently too.

8 ReactionsHello.
I was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer Dec 24 after going to ER for severe. jaundice. Found tumor in the head of the pancreas. Feb 25 started 5FU treatment for 12 - 2 week cycles . I did not tolerate it well at all with all kind of side-effects. Nausea, vomit diarrhea, fatigue. CT Pet should no progress in reducing tumor or CA19. So they chagrdvit to GA. Which is tolerated very well. 8 - 2 week cycles. Tomorrow shrank and CA went down. Proceeded to Wipple surgery which was a sucesss in removing the tumor, normal C A19. 3vweeks after surgery. No sign of metastases and levels normal. Until myb3 mo checkup. It has now metastases to liver. Stated on GA gain on Nov 13. Waiting on DNA of biopsy. Will go from.thete. hope I tolerate GA same as last time.

1 Reaction@deniselb3, welcome. It's a hard news to hear when all treatment options have been exhausted. Has anyone suggested clinical trials? Are you seeing a palliative care team? How are you doing?

1 Reaction@kakalena thankyou for explaning this. I wish you fast recovery and a lot of strength and happiness.
I think we will opt out of chemo as an option entirely. I am really looking forward for his infection and fever to stabilize now ( post celiac neurolysis and bile duct stent procedure ) so that we can start the target medication. Everyone is hopeful and positive that it will work. Hoping for the best now 😇

Thanks for your good wishes. Amazingly, my tumor has shrunk about 50 % so I am now back in the possible Whipple surgery, depending on results of endoscopic ultrasound I'll be having tomorrow to verify that tumor has separated from artery and down to less than 50% contact with vein.. If it's a go, they want to do it ASAP because of scarring from radiation. If it's a no go, and I'm back on the nano-knife, then I have to wait another 3 months ( it has to be 6 months after final radiation treatment) It's one day at a time and there are lots of twists. I may be having chemo again after surgery which is sort of standard to catch any stray cells.

4 ReactionsHello: My husband recently had a recurrence of pancreatic adenocarcinoma in the surgical bed (Per PET & CT scans) after almost going 3 years cancer free post Whipple surgery (December 2022). With the recurrence to get to the area to do a biopsy, due to the previous Whipple surgery, has been unsuccessful. Has anyone had a similar experience post Whipple and was able to successfully get a biopsy of a similar recurrence area? If so, what procedure was used and where? He is currently using chemo drugs Gemcitabine and Abraxane ( this upcoming infusion will be his 4th ). He is going to do scans soon to check if the chemo drugs are working. His CA 19-9 levels have always been low (0.6), so that blood test can't be used as a marker to determine if the treatment is working.
